Job Description
Allstate is looking for an eager Platform Engineer who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment and who has experience building opinionated cloud environments and platforms. In addition, they are challenged with running and maintaining a Platform as a Service that includes Pivotal Application Services, Kubernetes, ELK, and more. They are able to handle end to end deployments of environments with the use of infrastructure as code tools such as terraform and being able to manage deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of various cloud environments and platforms within Allstate
- Advocate for engineering practices and assist teams in using frameworks for infrastructure as code and immutable infrastructure concepts
- Manage complex technical designs in engineering and operating cloud platform infrastructure
- Advocate the strategy and manage complex designs for the continuous integration and continuous delivery frameworks and tools
- Participate in an on-call rotation
- Will be working primarily in an Extreme Programming environment and must be willing to work in a paired programming/engineering model
Job Qualifications
- 4 - 6 years of relevant technical experience required, including a minimum of 2 years of engineering experience managing a production environment
- 2+ years of application development or infrastructure engineering experience
- Hands-on style - willingness to produce necessary changes in our infrastructure and processes
- Able to work in diverse teams, multi-task, and work under pressure to meet aggressive schedule targets
- Able to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries & communicate effectively across groups of diverse backgrounds
- Identify creative solutions for technical challenges
- Ability to communicate and present ideas and solutions
Technical Skills
- Experience with highly available state-less and state-full deployments
- Experience in infrastructure programming using languages like Python, Ruby, Go, Shell
- Advanced knowledge and experience across multiple technologies in a single domain (Cloud, Security, DevOps, etc).
Nice to Have
- Experience with Platform as a Service/Container Orchestration software, like CloudFoundry, Heroku, Openshift, Kubernetes, Docker
- Experience in using DSLs/frameworks for managing infrastructure as code like (or similar to) CloudFormation, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, BOSH, etc
- Solid understanding of security and compliance frameworks, standards and implementation in public and private cloud environments like AWS, Azure, and VMware
