Summary

The Senior Production Underwriter is responsible to produce and underwrite profitable Commercial Lines business, including package, automobile, workers compensation and umbrella within the Central Zone. Responsible for profitability and production targets within assigned territory while building strong agency relationships. Act as an agency manager for assigned agents. Work closely with Risk Engineering and Claims counterparts to develop and implement account management strategies to impact account retention and profitability as well as increasing visibility with agents and customers.

Essential Functions

  • Selects and underwrites moderate to highly complex accounts and risks. Thoroughly analyzes available information to determine terms and conditions of coverage on new and renewal business.
  • Applies appropriate pricing techniques according to company filings and state/ bureau regulatory guidelines.
  • Determines if reinsurance is needed and procures quotes from various internal and external markets.
  • Works with Underwriting Manager to develop and implement an agency appointment strategy for assigned territory and manages the territory by visiting agents, brokers and clients on a regular basis.
  • Identifies and develops strong relationships with assigned agents to obtain positive submissions flow, gain market intelligence and meet new business and profitability goals.
  • Completes trip reports of each visit to highlight key issues and follow up activities.
  • Applies appropriate pricing of techniques according to company filings and state/ bureau conformance.
  • Monitors underwriting results and premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.
  • Establishes and executes insured and producer travel programs, independently or with Risk Engineering, Claims and Underwriting Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor' s degree from four-year college or university is preferred.
  • 5+ years underwriting multi-line middle market commercial business($100,000 to $1m) with a minimum of 3+ years in a production role.
  • Experience with advanced underwriting concepts such as large deductible programs is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated negotiation and production skills.
  • CPCU preferred.
  • Advanced underwriting technical training required.
  • Expert knowledge of insurance finance and actuarial concepts.
  • Ability to understand financial statements and ratios used in risk analysis
