Job Summary
Under broad oversight, plans at a strategic enterprise level and manages the effective use of team resources. Sets the direction and leads the engineering department to provide critical services. Responsibilities include design, development, operational maintenance, and implementation of enterprise-wide core systems and services supporting the business. Influences Sr. business and technology leaders on strategic technical direction enabling sound decision-making. This job is a manager of second vice presidents and directors.

As a leader in our Infrastructure and Cloud Services organization, our Vice President of Engineering is responsible for the design, execution, and operations of enterprise-wide technology services enabling customer and employee-centric capabilities to drive Travelers' 'Perform & Transform' objectives. . From end-user computing, mobility, video conferencing and collaboration tools to content management and other enterprise solutions, the VP of Engineering is a transformative, collaborative and inspirational leader of a 150+ engineering organization.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sets the Enterprise Engineering strategy and delivers technology solutions, services, and components in alignment with enterprise Technology direction and business objectives.
  • Leads and directs all aspects of the organization, including financial/budgetary oversight, management of a portfolio of products, and service delivery.
  • Oversees the execution, delivery, and maintenance of products and services.
  • Responsible for fulfilling IT audits for the Engineering organization. Ensures the organization's compliance with IT standards, policies, and governance.
  • Partners and consults with Sr. technology and business leaders to offer infrastructure solutions that meet enterprise business needs.
  • Leads the coordination and resolution of complex and cross organizational topics. Builds sustainable, collaborative relationships across Enterprise technology teams, negotiates with vendors and handles escalations.
  • Responsible for communicating status, strategic direction, and results. Able to provide executive level briefings on programs, strategic direction, status on issues and financials.
  • Provides human resources management, including coaching, performance management, team development and growth, and workforce planning.
  • Effectively engages as a member of the senior leadership team for the Infrastructure & Cloud Services organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of progressive work experience in the technology space and a minimum of 4 years of people management experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • 12 years of progressive work experience in the technology space preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred. Leadership experience preferred.

Technical Skills and Competencies
  • Experience and technical expertise in multiple engineering disciplines including, but not limited to: end-user computing, mobility, video conferencing, broadcast TV, unified communications & collaboration (including the full Microsoft tool suite) and content management solutions across the enterprise.
  • Experience and expertise with Agile & DevOps methodologies and tools.
  • Able to evaluate market and industry trends within related technical domains.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills to effectively create recommendations, influence decision-making, assess impacts, compare solutions, problem solve, and achieve business and/or technical objectives.
  • Thoroughly understands how overall responsibilities fit within broader technical environment and has strong ability to influence technology recommendations for the enterprise.
  • Experience leading large scale technology organization and building and leading large teams.

  • Able to build strong relationships and foster a collaborative environment across Business and Shared Technology organizations.
  • Expert written and oral communication at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Expert presentation skills used to influence other leaders across the Enterprise.
