- Help to design and develop new applications to support the use of EC concepts across the organization; help embed economic capital and risk concepts into Business management thinking and planning processes
- Provide subject matter expertise on capital modeling software and techniques to members of ECM Users Group community
- Influence capital management and allocation strategy by developing recommendations based on analysis and research
- Perform and/or manage ad-hoc analyses on a wide variety of risk and capital-related topics
- Support the LMIG ERM program by providing analysis and insight on risk drivers as needed
- Drive improvements and maintenance of the corporate economic capital models, data, and processes based upon own and internal team observations as well as ongoing feedback from Corporate, business, and functional teams in risk, actuarial, finance, and investments
- Advocate for and demonstrate the importance and utility of risk and capital modeling with business partners
- Help drive development of consistent definitions and measures of risk and of capital utilization by enhancing the analyses supporting and reporting of key risk drivers and their impact on capital usage
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and instruction to junior members of staff
- Implement timely and practical solutions to complex problems
- Bachelor's degree with strong preference for degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or Actuarial Science
- Advanced degree (Masters Degree, Ph.D.), actuarial FCAS/ACAS, FSA/ASA (or equivalent), combined with relevant experience preferred
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in risk modeling or related non-academic disciplines
- Proven track record of applying advanced analytics to improve business results and resolve business problems
- Exceptional understanding of quantitative modeling concepts, techniques, standards, assumptions, and uses
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently, balance multiple initiatives, prioritize incoming requests in accordance with the changing needs of the organization, effectively manage projects, and complete projects in a timely manner
- Ability to learn and implement new concepts quickly, solve problems, and generate ideas
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, both one-on-one and in larger group settings
- Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences at all levels of management
- Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside of the Corporate Risk and Capital Analytics organization
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and individuals representing multiple businesses and functions to achieve successful outcomes
- Sound understanding of Liberty Mutual's major lines of business; deep knowledge of insurance operations and procedures across Finance, Underwriting, Reserving, Claims, Advanced Analytics, and Investments areas
- Expert ability with programming languages (e.g., R, SAS, C/C++, Python, VBA); experience with Willis Towers Watson Igloo software (our economic capital modeling platform) a significant plus
