Advance your career at Liberty Mutual - A Fortune 100 Company!   The newly formed National Insurance Data Pioneering group is looking for data scientists to join its team and help promote a data-driven culture throughout National Insurance. In order to achieve our vision of becoming an elite underwriting organization, we will closely partner with many teams across Product, Underwriting Strategy & Excellence, Strategy & Insights, and our various Underwriting segments to provide advanced analytical support to enable NI to out-select its competitors.   This position is focused on providing predictive analytical solutions for our Distribution, Product and Industry Analytics teams that will enable strategic decision-making for our product and underwriting customers across NI. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a diverse and brand new analytics team and a great fit for a predictive modeler who is also looking to provide value to the insurance business.

Responsibilities:
  • Researches and develops predictive analytic solutions.  Leverages knowledge to create/design solutions for business needs.
  • Mines large data sets using sophisticated analytical techniques to generate insights and inform business decisions.
  • Identifies and tests hypotheses, ensuring statistical significance, and builds predictive models for business application. 
  • Translates quantitative analyses and findings into accessible visuals for non-technical audiences, providing a clear view into interpreting the data.
  • Enables the business to make clear trade-offs between and among choices, with a reasonable view into likely outcomes.
  • Customizes analytic solutions to specific client needs.
  • Responsible for smaller components of projects of moderate-to-high complexity. 
  • Regularly engages with the data science community and participates in cross-functional working groups.
  • The actual internal level/grade for this role will depend on the candidate's overall experience and skill level.
Qualifications:
  • Solid knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.  Advance knowledge of predictive toolset; expert resource for tool development. 
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely.  Has a value-driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
  • Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science or other scientific field of study) and no professional experience, a Master's degree (scientific field of study) and 1 year of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor's degree(scientific field of study) and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Python and/or R experience is strongly preferred
