Excellence In Everything We Touch

CrawCo Ole Miss

Position Summary

As UI Designer, you will be working with UX Designers and UI Developers to create design artifacts and documentation that will support a company-wide universal atomic design system for enterprise software applications. The ideal candidate will have experience building and maintaining framework-agnostic design systems, setting up online pattern libraries, and building out structured (atomic) design artifacts for export as UI kits to be used in software such as Sketch. You will be responsible for rapidly creating artifacts such as wireframes, low and high-fidelity prototypes, spot comps, vector and raster assets, custom icon fonts, and design documentation. You will provide UI animation examples, and work with UI developers to perfect animations in the browser. Though prototypes and handoff documents will be necessary, we also expect you to work directly with the UI Developer to design directly in the browser using a frontend workshop environment. As part of an agile team, you will need to be able to adjust quickly to changes in scope, and produce proofs of concept with quick turnaround. Use of reusable symbols and dynamic data sources will be a must. You will be responsible for compliance with accessibility standards for both desktop and mobile (touch) environments. You will combine knowledge of common design patterns and libraries for mobile and desktop applications with a passion for solving new problems with creative UI solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with designers, developers, engineers, project managers, and product owners in an agile environment.
  • Create, improve and use wireframes, clickable prototypes, style guides, UI kits, user flows, and effectively communicate your interaction ideas using any of these methods.
  • Provide UI animation examples, and work with UI Developers to perfect animations in the browser using native tools.
  • Present and defend your design decisions. All your design decisions should be based on the overall design roadmap as well as your own design thinking and fundamental principles (i.e. color theory, visual weight, etc.)
  • Continually keep yourself and your design team updated with the latest changes in industry standards
  • Develop the visual design assets for a framework-agnostic UI pattern library
  • Update, version, and deploy library assets to an online design system
  • Review all applications for UI consistency and design system compliance
  • Work closely online with UX and UI developers utilizing minimal handoff documentation such as spot-comps to create in-browser prototypes
  • Learn and understand all popular mobile and desktop frameworks, libraries, and languages as they become relevant
  • Act as a UI design ambassador, providing educational documentation and training to coworkers
  • Train and mentor new designers in the use of our custom UI pattern library, design system, best practices, and standards
  • Document workflows, Information architecture, and design patterns using diagram software such as Draw.io, OmniGraffle, Lucidchart or Visio
  • Prepare design files with the proper layer structure, symbol hierarchy, and naming conventions for handoff through InVision or Zeplin
  • Create redline handoff documents when necessary
Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in UI design, Interactive Design, Visual Communications, Digital Design, Web Design or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of experience and proven track record of implementing scalable design systems for enterprise software solutions
  • Strong portfolio to be presented and defended during interview
  • Hands-on experience creating wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, etc.
  • Proficient using tools such as Sketch, Axure, InVision, Zeplin, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Ability to create pristine animations in After Effects, Photoshop, Anima, Flinto or other animation software
  • Understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3, Javascript
  • Creative ideas with problem solving mindset
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum development process
  • Be open to receiving objective criticism and improving upon it
  • Understanding of User-Centered Design principles and heuristics
