Job Summary
Positions within this family ensure data is properly managed and leveraged from Source to Storage to Delivery in the most efficient and effective way to benefit the organization. This position performs accountabilities under general supervision and: Leverages technology and analytics skills to apply intermediate data analysis practices that benefit business and IT strategic initiatives. Performs advanced data profiling, metadata capture, data lineage, data transformation rules in support of key program deliverables. Meets data management needs of internal and external clients according to established standards, including problem research/resolution and customer education. Provides data subject matter expertise to business and IT organizations. Performs intermediate data impact analyses in partnership with project teams. Participates in building strategic model solutions including transformation rules and attribute relationships. This job may lead others. General supervision: the employee is told what to do but not how to do it. The how to is left up to the employee. These jobs have some discretion on accountabilities.

Marketing Description

Looking for a strong Data Quality and Data Analytics candidate who will measure and report on the quality of data being used for analytics and perform data analysis on strategic projects. Main Duties will include:

  • Leveraging technology and analytical skills to apply data analysis practices that benefit business and IT strategic initiatives.
  • Performing intermediate to advanced data profiling, metadata documentation, data lineage, data transformation rules in support of key program deliverables.
  • Working alongside the Data Governance team to ensure that data management activities across PI are accounted for and in compliance with established policies and standards.
  • Meeting data management needs of internal and external clients according to established standards, including problem research/resolution and customer education.
  • Collaborating with Business Owners and SMEs to define, design, recommend, and leverage tools to measure and monitor data quality.
  • Performing simple to moderate root cause analysis, tracing quality problems to their source and analyze business impacts of data quality issues.
  • Discovering, documenting, and analyzing data collection and data transformation processes to determine the cause of systemic errors or uncover data quality improvement opportunities.
  • Analyzing customer requests (internal and external regulatory, e.g. data calls) for changes to production systems, determine impact on existing systems, processes and develop appropriate specifications, enhancements and or procedures to comply.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Develops and applies data derivations, rules; and data requirements that align with standards and regulatory compliance. Participates in the development of Data Management standards and best practices. Consults on projects, resolves moderate to complex data issues and provides training and mentoring to clients and peers. Participates in the data governance process, preparing artifacts for submission. Actively participates in the creation and implementation of business information models, and business intelligence and data roadmaps including attributes, structures and relationships. Actively participates in complex entity design, structure and population. Provides guidance to strategic projects around accuracy and availability of data. Monitors, identifies, investigates, prioritizes, remediates and communicates data quality issues. Performs data profiling, analyzes and communicates results in support of data quality processes. Assists in implementation of processes to certify data quality for business intelligence purposes. Provides day-to-day project leadership by setting priorities, assigning work and coaching/mentoring unit members to ensure standards regarding timeliness and quality are met. Demonstrates detailed understanding of overall data models, data relationships, mapping lineage and business rules. Data Governance: Designs and implements metadata repositories. Partners with projects to facilitate adherence and execution of data governance standards. Assists in designing and implementing metadata repositories. Actively participates in defining, loading and maintaining metadata. Seeks opportunities to enhance data management maturity. Assists with providing data governance oversight and setting of standards. Assists in implementation and execution of the data quality program to ensure data quality standards are being met. Adheres to the structure, best practices, storage needs of the data lineage. Data Analysis: Work with business areas and project team members to understand new business capabilities and perform impact analyses to determine additional data requirements, provide data expertise and data as needed. Conduct fact gathering sessions with customer to define and confirm requirements. Oversee deliverables for compliance (e.g. state/bureau requirements). Develops, maintains and prioritizes business data requirements and specifications; leveraging data standards, ensuring that solutions (structure, values, relationships, quality standards) meet operational and business need. Analyzes medium complexity customer requests (internal or external, e.g. data calls) for changes to production systems, determines impact on existing systems, processes and develops appropriate specifications, enhancements and or procedures to comply. Meet with customer to elicit requirements. May act as project lead for medium complexity items. Manage the testing and verification processes ensuring accurate. Handles moderate to complex root cause analysis of business data issues and provides technical data guidance on complex issues. Oversee specification or procedural changes to address issue. Provides input to end to end data flow and lineage from capture at source, to storage, to delivery and its business intent at each stage (i.e. capture, transformation, fragmentation, editing). Conduct thorough analysis of data in preparation for retiring old capabilities. Develop strategic solutions for architecture for managing of data including transformation logic, rules, tables as well as business requirements and specifications. Represents functional unit and/or departmental needs as part of Data Management committees with internal and external areas, including Product Underwriting, Statistical Bureaus, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
4 years analytics experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelors degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or Business preferred. 4 years experience in data management or related experience preferred. Experience training others. Insurance knowledge preferred. Demonstrates general understanding of overall data models, data relationships, mapping lineage and business rules. Acts as subject matter experts on specific aspects of data availability and usage, assisting in the arbitration of differences of data interpretations and guidance to projects, business and technology areas. Thorough knowledge of tools and software used to extract and analyze data in the data management function preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing Data Analytics and writing SQL Queries.
  • Experience with Data Quality, recommending improvements to best practices.
  • Data Profiling.

Licensing or Certificates
IDMA, IQCP, or CPCU preferred.
