Job Summary
This position is responsible for inspecting, estimating, evaluating, and negotiating 1st and 3rd party Boat & Yacht claims, including both personal and business insurance claims. The claim types will be basic to high complexity/severity Boat/Yacht claims. This position provides assistance to all lines of business and departments, i.e., Property, Inland Marine, Public Sector, etc., with evaluating physical damage as needed, including Catastrophe response As part of the hiring process, this position requires the completion of an online pre-employment assessment. This job does not manage others This job works under General Supervision: Incumbent independently performs a variety of duties, including potentially complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments (e.g. assigned customers, claims or other specified set of responsibilities); is expected to set priorities and meet specific goals and objectives of the function or unit. (Typically pertains to advanced/operational, senior professional, unit supervisor)

Marketing Description
Territory includes Connecticut, Rhode Island, Eastern New York and Western Massachusetts. Preferred candidate will reside in any of these locations.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Delivers consistent service quality throughout the claim life cycle, including but not limited to prompt contact, explaining the process, setting expectations, on-going effective communication, and follow-through and meeting commitments to achieve optimal outcome on every file. Effectively manages work assignments and promptly travel to location of boat / equipment. Arranges to view equipment if not readily accessible. Depending on size and situation, may involve coordination with experts and officials to provide access to the equipment. Scopes claims which require significant independent judgment and research for evaluating damage, locating comparative parts and/or boat values given the unique types of boats appraised. Determining cause of loss by thoroughly inspecting the information provided, requests more if needed, to determine if damages are consistent with the reported cause of loss. Identifies needed resources and experts including scientists, engineers, manufacturers and other technical resources to provide information that will contribute to the determination of the value in the absence of any formal pricing guidelines for boat/yacht. Utilizes these resources where necessary to confirm or refute information provided in the investigation. Through use of expertise and judgment, analyzes and processes information collected to establish and determine a final physical damage value. Utilizes technical expertise and information gathered to make judgment determination of value where scientific method and company guidelines do not exist. Acts as an onsite expert to determine application of policy language as it relates to the facts of the underlying event and damage. Participates in meetings with internal legal counsel when needed and appropriate. May make recommendations regarding litigation. Negotiate the claim with the customer and/or repair facilities leveraging appropriate resources and achieve agreement on value. Prepares and documents accurate vessel / equipment damage appraisals, Actual Cash and Replacement values according to applicable regulatory and corporate guidelines. Partners with the assigned Claim Professional throughout the life of the claim. Partners from initial investigation through final recovery to ensure appropriate claim resolution and pursuit of alternative recovery sources (e.g. Subrogation, SIU, etc.). Estimate authority to approve physical damages costs up to $30,000. Provides training and mentoring assistance in the development of property CAT claim staff on effective and accurate handling of Boat/Yacht physical damage claims. Provides expertise to underwriting and other business leaders to influence future policy pricing and underwriting feasibility of specific specialty and boat/yacht amendments based on information gained through investigations. Participates in the Heavy/Specialty Equipment Large Loss Review and Independent Appraisal Overview process as needed. Participate in catastrophe response and act as Boat/Yacht specialty equipment CAT site manager as needed. Training, mentoring and assisting in the development of Boat & Yacht claim staff (inside and outside). In order to perform the essential functions of this job, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements. Generally, license(s) must be obtained within three months of starting the job and obtain ongoing continuing education credits as mandated. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Degree or GED A minimum of 1 year of related marine industry experience. Valid driver's license

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
2-Year College Degree or Bachelor's Level Degree or Technical School 2 year Marine industry experience preferred. 2 years Boat/yacht repair experience preferred; Prior experience with insurance carrier a plus

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
Strong technical background including extensive knowledge of boat/yacht equipment, boat/yacht repair and repair techniques, including thorough understanding of boat/yacht terminology and construction. Thorough knowledge of claims appraisal systems and overall claim operations. Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer centric response to all assigned tasks. Commitment to continuous education, i.e. marine seminars, Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) meetings. Ability to regularly and promptly travel extended distances, with little or no advance notice, demonstrating effective planning, expense and cost control skills. Ability to provide oversight, mentor, train and develop Boat/Yacht claim staff. Claim handling and Business Insurance policy knowledge to handle complex claims.
