Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for providing Underwriting development and support for Northfield Underwriting office initiatives. Serves as a referral and trainer to the Account Executives and Account Managers in the field.
Ensures underwriting results for book of business enhance overall profitability, growth and retention of business and are consistent with all related underwriting initiatives.
Collaborates with Business Insurance and Corporate Audit and works closely with Northfield Managing Directorsregarding audit requirements. The role will require interaction with Northfield General Agents and different business units within Travelers.
Involved in strategies, projects and training initiatives that support the profitable growth and success of Northfield and the enterprise.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
AssistsChief Underwriting Officer (or similar role) in articulating strategy needs for rate adequacy, product and pricing within assigned region or segment to achieve maximum earnings.
Assists Chief Underwriting Officer (or similar role) in identifying and monitoring trends, emerging issues and underwriting results for the book of business and/or assigned market segments. May partner with field management to take action as needed. Leverage MI as appropriate. Help with Aggregate Management and Coastal Accumulations.
Helps ensure that production and underwriting objectives with respect to profitability are achieved.
Participates in the development and execution of strategic business planning activities to ensure that the underwriting philosophy and practices are consistent with business unit goals. Provides support to marketing and distribution strategies for assigned market segment(s).
Responsible for audit processes as assigned, including serving as the audit liaison with Corporate and Business Insurance audit leads.
Educates less experienced Account Executives on underwriting strategy and guidelines. Responsible for CURE processes as assigned. Handles referrals within assigned market segment(s) and underwriting authority.
Serves as a liaison with Agency Automation and IT including but not limited to providing support to Web Services and other IT initiatives. Coordinates across Travelers as appropriate for projects, strategies and initiatives.
Involved in training, strategic initiatives and projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years of underwriting experience required.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
6+ years of underwriting experience preferred.
Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
Possess exceptional organizational, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty coverages
Outside of the box thinker
Effectively work with multiple stakeholders
Strong mentorship and training capabilities
Effective coaching
Preferable E&S Experience
Prior experience handling underwriting referrals
Licensing or Certificates
CPCU designation preferred.
