Job Summary
The Enterprise Catastrophe Strategy & Analysis group is seeking an individual with a business and quantitative background to join our expanding catastrophe (CAT) model research and infrastructure team. You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals charged with leading Travelers to be in a position to endure catastrophic losses from natural and man-made perils. The Catastrophe Strategy team is responsible for the catastrophe models and tools used to maximize the corporation's risk/reward from catastrophe related insurance products.

The Model Research and Infrastructure team is responsible for evaluation and implementation of cutting edge catastrophe models, post-processing systems, and CAT related metrics and analytics. This position will contribute to the development of new systems and update/expansion of the existing systems.



Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the implementation of enhancements/changes to our CAT Modeling/Reporting environments, along with the ownership of end user tools.
  • Contribute to the development of the Enterprise CAT Data Mart and analytical tools that consume the Data Mart.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and provide support for the post-processing platform (CAR) as it relates to the application of our View of Risk and reinsurance structures.
  • Assess and communicate the impact of enhancements/changes to the current metrics, processes, etc.
  • Identify and exploit opportunities for enhanced Business Intelligence that align with the Enterprise architecture and strategy. This includes identification and adoption of emerging technologies as warranted.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the next generation of CAT Modeling platforms


Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. One year of experience supporting business technology systems required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Undergraduate and/or Graduate degree in computer science, data science or related quantitative field such as applied mathematics, statistics, or engineering.
  • Prior experience in relevant insurance/reinsurance field performing data analysis.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning, data analysis, and critical thinking, verbal and written communications, organizational and project management skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of database programming (SQL Server, Oracle, mySQL), Microsoft Excel and Access; exposure to VBA, Python, Qlikview, etc. a plus.
  • Good ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc. and to deliver on required projects in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to interact successfully with mid-level corporate management.
  • Domain knowledge of primary P&C insurance market, a basic understanding of CAT modeling concepts and one or more vendor CAT models preferred.
