Job Summary

We are looking for a proven finance leader and business partner to join the Technology & Operations Finance leadership team to support the Data & Analytics community at Travelers. This role will directly support the chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) and focus on building and executing a holistic framework for strategic planning and investment focused on our Data Strategy and related initiatives to achieve business goals and outcomes. Key investments would include enterprise and cross-business area initiatives as well as investments within individual data and analytics areas within the businesses.

The finance leader will be accountable for financial planning and analysis for the enterprise data and analytics organization as well as aggregating all data and analytic activity across the company into a single view. The Data and Analytics finance function will work across the enterprise to inform the CDAO of overall Data strategy, roadmap, and investments, inclusive of developing and tracking key metrics and outcomes. The leader will have a hands-on but pragmatic approach in articulating strategies, informing metrics and implementing strong analytics and financial views to support engagement and transparency in all Travelers data and analytic work.

The leader will also support the investment planning and governance processes at the TRV enterprise level and support the agile transformation within the data and analytic groups. This includes investment funding, reporting, financial management, and governance practices. This role will be expected to build collaborative partnerships across the enterprise and will report to the Vice President, Technology FP&A with direct financial support for the CDAO and enterprise data and analytics (Enterprise Business Intelligence & Analytics) Technology and Business leadership.



Marketing Description



Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support an integrated planning process for our Data and Analytics programs to feed into Functional, Business and Technology planning processes across the enterprise. This would include working with BI&A strategy and technology groups to align information as needed to enable aggregation at the broad Travelers level, and to integrate division/functional information into an overall Travelers Data and Analytics financial framework.
  • Lead monthly cross-enterprise meetings with Data and Analytics leadership and the Analytic Management Committee (AMC) to ensure continued alignment and coordination of key investments, to inform decision-making on BI&A initiatives, and highlight new spend or unplanned initiatives that arise during the year.
  • Support processes that facilitate ongoing executive engagement on key Data and Analytics investments. Periodic executive discussion on key investments would include: progress along shared outcomes, discussion on priorities, pace and direction as needed, and key issues for management attention. Cadence to include mid-year checkpoint and annual review of next year plan to provide visibility and tracking of full portfolio of strategic investments.
  • Engage and support the development of key metrics to support the Data Strategy roadmap along with support for current and target core BI&A strategic priorities, goals and outcomes. Working with Data and Analytics leaders across the enterprise to build out financial models to align BI&A capabilities to business goals and outcomes, assess gaps and investment needs, and define the business case for key investments for Travelers outcomes.
  • Provide financial support for investment funding and governance processes, engaging with the organization to ensure enterprise views of investments and outcomes.
  • Develop Cost Benefit Analysis and Business Case models to align support funding requests. Design approaches for benefit evaluation and tracking that is oriented around KPIs as leading indicators of financial benefit and aligned with enterprise and business area goals/outcomes, and coordinate with business areas to aggregate full cost and benefit views.
  • Manage all aspects of financial planning and accounting in support of the enterprise data and analytics groups.
  • Provide ongoing input to strategic planning across the organization to ensure end-to-end accountability for driving results. Includes approach for alignment of investment KPIs to strategic goals/outcomes/financial KPIs and MYPs and a process for monitoring and tracking.
  • Provide BI&A input for Enterprise Governance Report scorecards / reporting for key investments, including horizontals and critical business investments.
  • Support expanded governance processes for BI&A cross-enterprise senior leadership forums.
  • Drive positive change across the organization by uniting, influencing, and collaborating across the organization
  • Assist with various projects as assigned/other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of related experience. Minimum 5 years of management experience.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, economics or similar required; MBA strongly preferred
  • 10+ years' leadership experience in finance; strategic FP&A experience a plus
  • Strong P&C industry financial experience required
  • Experience with Travelers planning and investment governance is strongly preferred.
