Job Summary
Under general supervision, assists in analysis, development, and execution of Select Underwriting processes, key controls and rules enabling underwriting automation. Actively contributes in initiatives and special projects, including creation of underwriting rules, portfolio monitoring and development of automated underwriting approaches across flow and low touch models. Partners across Small Commercial to understand market and customer dynamics, emerging issues, KPIs and the overall competitive landscape.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Individual participation in and/or leadership of activities, initiatives and projects to ensure effective development, implementation and monitoring of Select Underwriting processes, procedures, key controls and supporting documentation.
  • Contribution to broader Select strategic initiatives (e.g. Portfolio UW, Flow/Low-Touch Business model, Customer Solutions) by providing business analysis and insight into performance of underwriting strategy, rules, programs and processes.
  • Develop and utilize tools, data analysis techniques and other technical resources to ensure effective execution of monitoring and business performance analysis of underwriting rules, programs and processes.
  • Ongoing, original and creative analysis of rules performance, outcomes of post-issuance reviews, UW processes and other markers of UW performance to support both flow and low touch underwriting models, and to identify trends and strategic opportunities.
  • Contribute towards enhanced user experience through active, ongoing evaluation of underwriting questions and rules, namely their performance, value, alignment to strategy and impacts to production and capacity.
  • Build and leverage relationships across Select to synergize efforts cross-functionally and maximize effectiveness of controls and processes in context of underwriting appetite and broader business strategies.
  • Drive continual process improvement through active management of resources, identifying opportunities to enhance, expand or update existing controls and processes.
  • Leverage data, analytical and underwriting expertise to provide support to partners in Select UW and beyond.
  • Participate in Select & Select UW key initiatives (TPP, Comparative Rater, etc.)


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. 3 years of insurance experience with working knowledge and experience in product, underwriting or coverage required. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelors degree in business management, mathematics, management information, finance, actuarial science, economics or other analytics-related field preferred. Three years of experience in data analytics. Two years experience working in Insurance industry preferred.


Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
Technical Knowledge/Critical Thinking: Able to extract and analyze data, identify trends, understand causal relationships and make strategic recommendations. Team Orientation: Ability to collaborate effectively with partners in Select UW (home office and field organization), Small Commercial (e.g. Product Management, Business Process Effectiveness, etc.) and across Enterprise (e.g. BI & Enterprise UW). Planning and Project Management: Strong organization and time management skills. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge: Understands basic underwriting concepts such as risk acceptance and adverse selection. Solid understanding of analytical tools. Understanding of basic organizational and underwriting strategy (e.g. ease-of-doing-business, portfolio management). Understands and is able to access available data and underwriting resources. Solid understanding of and good working relationship with field underwriting, business centers, and information technology. Understands the workflow and terminology of these areas and their impact on underwriting performance. Proficient knowledge of Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.
