Job Summary
This position has dual reporting into the President, Commercial Accounts Group and the Business Insurance Field Vice President (BI FVP). The incumbent is responsible for the strategies and decisions which provide for profitability, growth and retention of business within an assigned region consistent with Commercial Accounts Group (CAG, Excess, Public Sector, Technology)/Specialty practice and company objectives. Field Specialty MD's will have a dual reporting into this role and their respective Field Practice Lead. Responsible for effective collaboration with regional leadership team and field practice leaders to achieve Business Insurance objectives. Responsible for attracting, retaining, and managing employees. This job is a Manager of managers: Senior level manager that is responsible for managing the objectives, performance, and compensation of lower levels of management. This job works under Broad Oversight: Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and establishes the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work and typically formulates policy for this area, but may have final authority for approving policy.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy and Business Results: In partnership with Practice Leads, provides a clear vision of the future and translates the vision into realistic business strategies. Directs the achievement of financial and operational objectives through effective planning and analysis of Regional results to ensure profitable growth. Accountable for regional profit and loss results. Effectively drives a collaborative business approach and fosters solutions to regional BI issues. In concert with the BI Business Centers will continue ensuring excellence in setting and achieving performance standards. Inspires others to achieve quality results and promotes a spirit of always doing the right thing on behalf of the enterprise and the business. Leading People: Has an active and collaborative partnership with Field Practice Leader and HR around recruiting plans and staff development in order to attract and retain top talent. Works closely with leaders on developing bench strength for all key positions. Staff management functions include, but not limited to, coaching, training, planning and performance management in a supportive, team oriented, collaborative manner. Shares talent management responsibilities with the BI FVP and other Enterprise leaders for the benefit of the organization as a whole. Builds and maintains valued internal business partnerships within Business Insurance, the Enterprise, and external constituencies as appropriate. Underwriting and Pricing: In alignment with President, CAG and local leadership, develops a strategic business plan to achieve overall business, specialty practice and company objectives. Jointly accountable with local field leadership for the results of the line's most complex, at risk or hard to close deals as needed. May participate in Portfolio CUREs. Distribution and Sales Management: Effectively collaborates with field leadership on all aspects of Distribution and Agency Management including: Local strategies, objectives and tactics concerning relationships with brokers and agencies through extensive knowledge of competitor products and capabilities as well as marketplace dynamics and market trends. Manages brokers and agents in order to develop mutually beneficial relationships and achieve business goals. Models, promotes and inspires behaviors inherent to a successful consultative marketing / sales culture. Negotiates the most complex, at risk, or hard to close deals as needed. Identifies creative solutions to complex issues that satisfy all parties. Provides direction and coaching to close the most difficult deals. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
10 years of underwriting leadership required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's, MBA or Master's degree preferred. Typically has 10+ years of relevant experience. Prior management of a region or multiple locations preferred. Strong general management background with P & L accountability. Exceptional organization, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, verbal and written communication skills. Industry/Business Knowledge: Exhibits a thorough understanding of global insurance trends, industry/ customer-based trends and enterprise wide business and financial drivers that affect the region. Effectively applies this knowledge in the development of strategy and direction of business activities within the region. Product Knowledge: Manages to organizational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures. Maintains a thorough knowledge of enterprise and industry-wide products and services.
