Donegal Insurance Group has an opening for a Training and Development Manager to join our Marietta, Pennsylvania office.
The Training and Development Manager will develop, implement and facilitate educational programs for Donegal Insurance Group employees in the following areas: performance management, customer service skills, coaching and counseling, leadership development, and technical expertise for various disciplines. They will also be responsible for providing Continuing Education opportunities to the Independent Agency system to support and build upon the established business relationships within our industry.
Candidates with a background in claims or underwriting and have a desire to move into a training role are preferred.
This position may or may not have direct reports. Level of position will be based on skills and experience. If assigned direct reports, then duties for leading and managing the team are required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assess educational needs throughout the Donegal Insurance Group organization. Ability to align the strategic and operational needs of the Senior Management team to ensure training initiatives are aligned to maximize organizational effectiveness.
- Develop educational programs that support the companys business strategies and objectives.
- Provide opportunities for Donegal Insurance Group employees to receive continuing education credits; this involves both the creation of CE programs as well as contracting with outside vendors and educational institutions
- Create, provide, and market education programs, both CE and non-CE, for the Donegal Insurance Companies independent agents; this includes knowledge of the CE filing rules and regulations for all the states we do business
- Provide guidance to employees that seek assistance in developing Personal Development Plans
- Maintain employee education records
- Conduct technical skills training within all departments including, but not limited to, the areas of Underwriting, Claims, and Loss Control
- Assist in the development of our Professional Insurance Trainee Program and monitor the progress of insurance trainees.
- Implement value-added culture through the development and implementation of Continuing Education Program for Donegal Insurance Group Agents and Donegal employees
- Able to work independently on projects and demonstrate commitment and participation to team goals, objectives, and projects
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operators license in the state of residency
- Must build and maintain good relationships with all company personnel and customers
- Provide timely, courteous, and quality customer service to customers
EDUCATION AND/OR RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree in Training & Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources Management or related field required
- Demonstration of self-development by continuing education through graduate school, industry related education or professional development seminars preferred
- Two to five years of technical insurance related experience in the areas of Underwriting, Claims Handling, or Loss Control preferred
- Two to five years of Training and Development experience, with experience in the P&C insurance field preferred
- CPCU designation preferred
SKILLS/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
- Strong leadership qualities, excellent organization skills, and the ability to speak comfortably in front of large groups is required
- Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible, ability to change direction quickly to handle unplanned issues that may arise
- Attention to detail
- PC skills to include:
- E-mail applications
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Basic knowledge of Webex application
- Industry specific software applications applicable to performance of position responsibilities
- Experience and/or training in instructional design a plus
- Learn, retain and apply a basic level of technical knowledge about Donegal Insurance Groups products and to effectively communicate that information to customers.
