The Underwriting Research & Analytics Team is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the quality of the book of business through collaboration with internal and external business partners to leverage analytics and predictive models in developing Countrywide Underwriting standards and influencing business results.
Job Summary
The Underwriting Research & Analytics Consultant II is responsible for the continued support of data collection and analytical procedures and processes. This role will begin to practice more independence throughout projects. This role will also begin to evaluate various pieces of underwriting analytics and procedures, providing appropriate recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Analysis
- Contributes to market share growth and profitability by assisting with economic, quantitative and statistical analytics
- Recommends the integration and delivery of changes to underwriting analytics and procedures
- Makes observations on market specific implications of business strategies (e.g., Impacts of product changes relative to mix of business trends)
- Supports the identification and resolution of underwriting issues and implications on operational processes through data analytics to confirm if they are working or not (e.g., mix of business trends, inspection results)
- Knowledge of data sources, with the ability to retrieve and review data from existing and new sources (OLAP/DART, CDF, ADW, R, SQL etc)
- With minimal direction, evaluates and performs data trend analysis (e.g., underwriting, competitor analysis, financial) to forecast results
- Supports the development of business recommendations to achieve corporate goals and communicates to underwriting team
- Assures proper execution of underwriting analytics and predictive models through monitoring of underwriting processes and metrics
Process and Product Design/Improvement
- Participates in the development/design of new analytical processes communicates to leadership to gain alignment
- Begins to forecast short-term and long-term deliverables
- Supports the development/design of new underwriting analytics and predictive model concept designs
- Develops communication materials to support new underwriting analytical tools and predictive models
- Solicits inputs from key internal and external stakeholders
- With minimal direction, evaluates underwriting analytical tools and procedures and recommends alternatives or improvements
- Monitors metrics/data to ensure business results are aligned with expectations. Actively communicates anomalies and recommended actions to appropriate stakeholders
- Actively builds strong relationships among teams and team members to ensure cooperation on project objectives
Job Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience
- Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- Experience: 2-4 years industry experience preferred
- Knowledge of underwriting, product management and general insurance principles
- Demonstrates and fosters a sense of urgency, strong commitment and accountability for achieving results
- Working knowledge of data retrieval and manipulation
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effectively network and communicate with different types and levels of staff, both written and verbal
