Scrum Master

Purpose and Importance of Position

This position is responsible for supporting teams in the outcomes of working software from sprints as well as partnering with Product Owner and Business Analyst to ensure ceremonies include weekly product backlog refinement to feed sprints. Coaches team to build the teams self-management capability.

Essential Functions

• The Scrum Masters primary objective is building development teams capability and ability to self-manage.

Business IT Interface

• Runs the daily and weekly meetings (scrum events).
• Ensures development team estimation accuracy consistently improves.
• Partners with Business Analyst and Product Owner to ensure the business needs are understood and effectively mapped to MVP via priority linked to business value.
• Relies on Product Owner for business process knowledge.
• Orchestrates the Scrum ceremonies and, in general, the retrospectives.

Business requirements analysis

• Understands how requirements impact timelines (with input from developers).
• Can speak to user stories in the context of work completed, in progress, and on the backlog; not required to understand or explain details of requirements.

Program Oversight

• Tracks day-to-day activities of development staff and any other key task owners (requirements writers, architects, etc.)
• Reports progress using burn down (single sprint) burn up (multiple sprints) charts of user stories or any other unit of progress (e.g., number of screens).
• Manages any tasks that lie outside the team (e.g., working with infrastructure to deploy code or spin up environments) NOTE: team would be involved in this to ensure cross functional knowledge sharing.

• Supports team to ensure impediments are removed in 24 hours or less.

• Develops creative ideas and solutions to real time business problems and/or business opportunities; takes reasonable, calculated risks even if failure is possible.
• Empowers self and teammates to continuously improve RiverStones business processes/ systems and develops and escalates ideas and solutions.
• Consistently delivers superior customer service to both internal and external business partners.
• Demonstrates alignment with RiverStones Commitments.
• Prioritizes and organizes work in self-directed manner.
• Attains and maintains knowledge of assigned department.
• Performs other duties as required, including supporting and coordinating with other department colleagues.

Required Skills

• Deep knowledge of development models and how to apply them
• Customer service oriented with the ability for developing long lasting relationships with internal and external business partners.

Experience

• Scrum Master experience across multiple teams
• Experience as an Agile mentor and coach
• Experience using advanced techniques from Scrum, XP, Kanban and Lean.

Required Education

Bachelor level degree is required.

Preferred Education or Certification

Agile Certifications required (Certified Scrum Master)

Supervisory Role

Indirect responsibility for cross functional teams to deliver on projects.
