Primary Purpose:

The position will have P&L responsibility for private passenger auto insurance products in a specified territory/region. Must function as a "general manager" with P&L responsibility and development of strategic and tactical planning in a self directed manner. This position is responsible for meeting state volume and profit objectives. The ideal location for this position is based remotely in Colorado, but will also consider NGIC offices in Cleveland, OH and Winston-Salem, NC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Manager I

  • Analyzes premium/loss trends and implements product changes in order to meet expectations for profitability, conservation, refinement and geographic expansion of existing business and implementation of any new product structures.
  • Provides overall business leadership for the product in selected states across functions such as IT, Sales, Compliance, Marketing, Underwriting, PS&S, Finance and other areas both within the division and throughout the enterprise. Ensures that all state and product initiatives are compliant with regulations.
  • Monitors competitive and regulatory activities within the marketplace.
  • Provides overall business leadership for the product in selected states across functions
  • Performs other duties as required, including project based work.

Product Manager II

  • Manages new product and distribution implementation.
  • Analyzes premium/loss trends and implements product changes in order to meet expectations for profitability, conservation, refinement and geographic expansion of existing business and implementation of any new product structures.
  • Provides overall business leadership for the product in selected states across functions such as IT, Sales, Compliance, Marketing, Underwriting, PS&S, Finance and other areas both within the division and throughout the enterprise. Ensures that all state and product initiatives are compliant with regulations.
  • Monitors competitive and regulatory activities within the marketplace.
  • Provides overall business leadership for the product in selected states across functions
  • Performs other duties as required, including project based work.

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

Product Manager I

  • Bachelor undergraduate degree required.
  • 1-2 years equivalent business or product management experience in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, risk management, economics or business administration.
  • Strong leadership and ability to work effectively with other departments.
  • Enthusiastic, results oriented, inquisitive and willing to push for excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and analyze complex data sets.
  • Highly proficient in managing and manipulating data in Excel, Access and preferably in SAS.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to present information to senior management, other functional areas, and insurance agents,
  • Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, solve problems, make decisions, see trends/patterns within data sets, identify root causes.
  • Excellent presentation, persuasion, time management, strategic planning and analytical skills.

Product Manager II

  • All of the above in addition to:
  • 3-5 years equivalent business or product management experience in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, risk management, economics or business administration.

Desired Skills:

  • Prior Private Passenger Auto Product Management Experience preferred.
  • MBA preferred.
