Primary Purpose:

This position provides the technical leadership and consulting for Windows Server, Virtualization, Infrastructure design and troubleshooting, and operating system software and hardware configuration. Provides support for system performance and problem resolution along with technical analysis and recommendations to ensure efficient and effective use of infrastructure resources. The Architect assists in the development of infrastructure standards, configuration planning, capacity management and performance reporting, while gaining organizational commitment and leading architectural design for system implementations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical leadership and consultation on design, development and implementation of the Intel technology platform, including Microsoft, VMware, and supporting technologies in both datacenter and non-data center scenarios.
  • Engineer Windows server solutions that include integration, data storage, retention and disaster recovery planning for business critical applications and functions.
  • Perform installations, configuration changes, and maintenance of hardware, firmware, operating systems, and software.
  • Assist in monitoring Windows server environment to provide timely management reports.
  • Identify problems and shortcomings within the operational environment and develop strategic and tactical plans to address the issues identified.
  • Develop and maintain scripted and automated tools for management of the Windows physical and virtual environments.
  • Develop and maintain automated procedures and technical documentation for system implementation, auditing, and software distribution.
  • Updating and maintaining documented standards and processes within the Intel platform area, with strong focus on current and future organizational requirements.
  • Supporting operations teams as an L3 escalation point for high-priority or high-criticality situations.
  • Developing strong working relationships with vendors, internal technology teams, and business units to ensure a cohesive environment with strong oversight and knowledge.
  • Creating and reviewing operational readiness and other technical documentation as part of engineering projects.
  • Assisting with, and driving when needed, technical implementation plans for release to production operations.
  • Representing the team as a technical subject matter expert on projects, major support events, and in presentations of services and solutions to management.
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of current infrastructure status, as well as wider industry trends and technology capabilities and feature sets.
  • Fostering operational excellence through streamlined IT processes, standardization, automation, and complexity reduction.

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 10+ years experience in Information Technology in roles of increasing technical responsibility
  • 6+ years implementing and administering mission critical enterprise class Windows systems
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE: Server Infrastructure) Windows Server 2008/2012
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the Windows concepts, Domains, Active Directory and its concepts, and the interaction between hardware, operating systems, network, data center, and application software
  • Expert knowledge of OS fundamentals and performance tuning, virtualization, LAN/WAN networking, SAN connectivity, and systems management practices
  • Strong understanding of network and Internet concepts (e.g., firewalls, load balancers, web browsers, TCP/IP, SSL, HTTP, DNS, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of VMware or other virtual software
  • Knowledge of managing a data center in terms of systems monitoring, capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Experience designing, integrating and managing complex infrastructure solutions including cloud solutions integration
  • Ability to provide technical system solutions, determine overall design direction and provide hardware recommendations for complex technical issues
  • Experience planning and developing support processes and adhering to best practices
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
  • Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape
  • Working knowledge of, and experience with enterprise class server, storage and network devices
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust priorities appropriately in an evolving work environment with shifting time frames; self-starter with high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow through
  • Demonstrated strengths in organizational, attention-to-detail, reasoning, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices
  • Strong PowerShell Scripting abilities
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Architecture Certification (TOGAF, CITA, EACOE, Certified SOA Architect, etc.)
  • VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP6-DCV)
  • Knowledge of Cisco network and technologies, CCNA(P), CCIE, Linux and Unix
  • Expert EMC/Dell VBlock knowledge considered a strong plus
  • Strong understanding of HIPPA, PCI, SOX, and Bank regulatory compliance
  • Experience with domain consolidations/migrations and acquisition onboarding
  • Project management experience
