Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Mergers and Acquisitions!

The Director will play a key role on the corporate development team and will have the opportunity to lead all phases of strategic acquisitions & divestitures including origination, early analysis and screening, structuring, due diligence, contract negotiations and deal closing while continuing to be a guide and touch point during integration. This role will work closely with the valuation team and perform ad hoc financial analysis and will coordinate an efficient and thorough due diligence effort. This person will play a key role in ensuring proposed deals and structure align with Assurants business model, risk appetite and will help inform valuation assumptions. He/she will have responsibility for coordinating with other teams as appropriate and managing work streams and virtual teams on each deal and will help develop and execute on negotiating strategy with investment banks and other stakeholders. This person will frequently present to Senior Management.

The Director will provide expertise to identify and review corporate opportunities aligned with inorganic growth strategy and will communicate frequently with business leaders across Assurant to determine strategic fit and feasibility of a deal and will vet the structure according to financial targets for profitable growth. This role will develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including banks and other financial institutions and/or target companies and will help keep these external parties apprised of areas of strategic interest for Assurant.

The successful candidate will be a relationship builder and influencer internally and externally, will provide leadership in the sourcing and execution of opportunities and will engage with, monitor and report on post-close performance. Candidate will be comfortable managing multiple deals at a time and will work closely with other deal team members. The ability to work with Assurant management team and deal team members regardless of level is critical to success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of deal process and support other members of the Corporate Development team

  • Lead & direct team for due diligence including liaison with business units and corporate functions

  • Identify deal prospects & targets

  • Oversee and review financial modeling for strategic alignment

  • Negotiate with key stakeholders on behalf of Assurant

  • Lead internal alignment and issue resolution on a transaction

  • Manage subject matter experts (legal, finance, tax etc) in preparation for closing

  • Lead post-closing activity for Assurant

  • Lead deal teams


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting

  • 5-7 years M&A experience including leading all aspects of M&A transactions

  • Highly motivated

  • Strong financial, analytical and communication skills

  • Team player

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or MBA
  • Strong leadership, financial, analytical, communication, relationship building, coordination and organizational skills, particularly associated with administering and directing activity under complex M&A agreements; strong knowledge of the company and the business activities undertaken; financial modeling skills; able to function virtually & across multi locations & geographies; excellent execution skills & ability to multi task & prioritize
