Job Description
Data Discovery and Decision Science (D3) is the research and analytics organization at Allstate. We are solving some of todays most complicated analytics problems, making the lives of our Allstate colleagues easier and more productive, and driving our mission to deliver perfect insurance solutions to our customers. As a Data Scientist Graph Analytics / Link Analysis in D3, you will get 10% of your time to innovate, work on your own initiatives, learn, collaborate, and teach. This Data Scientist Graph Analytics / Link Analysis position is an entry-mid level role
In this role you will apply state of the art graph analytics and graph modelling to the interpretation of a wide range of data relationships. Experience using graph analytics such as with projects involving social network structure analysis, graph based recommendation systems and/or sentiment analysis is required. It will provide a strong foundation from which to advance your skill.
This role is responsible for contributing to the use of data to make decisions. This includes: The development and execution of statistical modeling techniques using link analysis, the coding\development of tools that use predictive modeling and visual analytics to make business decisions, searching for and integrating new data (both internal and external) that improves our modeling results (and ultimately our decisions), and discovery of solutions to business problems that can be solved through the use of machine learning/predictive modeling. This role will be mentored to manage projects of small to medium complexity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uses best practices, with limited coaching, to develop unsupervised & supervised learning techniques and graph analytics models that address business needs
- Utilizes effective project planning techniques to break down basic and occasionally moderately complex projects into tasks and ensure deadlines are kept
- Uses and learns a wide variety of tools and languages to achieve results (e.g., Python, Scala, Spark, GraphFrames, Hadoop)
- Innovates on projects by using new modeling techniques or tools
- Communicates findings to team and leadership to ensure models are well understood and incorporated into business processes
- Maximizes personal professional development to ensure continuation of a personal contribution to the team and Allstate
- Reviews and evaluates on appropriateness of techniques, given current modeling practices, to senior leadership
Job Qualifications
Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and applying graph and/or visual analytics methods and tools is required for this role
- Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, finance or economics. (Bachelor's degree with commensurate experience also considered)
- Experience using graph analytics such as with projects involving social network structure analysis, graph based recommendation systems and/or sentiment analysis is required.
- Proficiency programming in either R, Python, or Scala
- Experience using unsupervised modeling for anomaly detection highly preferred
- Demonstrated analytic agility
- Ability to analyze and interpret moderate to complex concepts
- Ability to provide written and oral interpretation of highly specialized terms and data, and ability to present this data to others with different levels of expertise
