PART TIME Staff Accountant SBS Job Summary - LOCATED IN COLUMBUS, OH

Hourly Rate: $25/hour

The Staff Accountant Specialty Brokerage Services (SBS) prepares financial statements and handles all cash inflows and outflows for the division. Responsible for filing and remitting payment to all states for surplus lines taxes. Performs reconciliations and assumes accountability for asset and liability account balances for ledgers. Manages and oversees check capturing and deposit activities

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Prepares financial statements and handles all cash inflows and outflows for the division.
  2. Responsible for payments to: State Insurance Departments, Companies, and agents on a daily basis.
  3. Completes surplus lines filings monthly, quarterly, annually, and/or as an account is bound depending on each states department of insurance requirements.
  4. Performs reconciliations and assumes accountability for asset and liability account balances for ledgers.
  5. Ensures that our aged receivables are current at all times which include working with agents to mandate timely payment on accounts trigger collection procedure when necessary.
  6. Manages and oversees check capturing and deposit activities.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. 3 or more years experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
  2. Minimum of one year reading and preparing financial statements.
  3. Experience and skill with standard office automation, accounting software packages, and MS Office products, especially Excel.
  4. Financial/analytical acumen and attention to detail.
  5. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills resulting in the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, employee population, and agencies (e.g., agents staff).
  6. Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or commensurate work experience.
  7. Valid drivers license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to operate various types of automated information processing equipment (copiers, etc.).
  • Ability to travel as required.
