Liberty Mutual Insurance's Legal Department is now hiring for its ten-week Summer Law Clerk Program for 2019. Our Summer Law Clerk Program provides motivated law students the opportunity to work closely with industry specialists on both day to day matters and diverse and challenging projects. Our D.C. position will expose students to the exciting intersection between public law and policy, and business.  The D.C. clerk will have the opportunity to work with seasoned public policy experts. Positions are full-time (37.5 hours per week) and paid. We are looking for capable applicants between their second and third years of law school with excellent academic credentials and strong writing skills.  This position is located in Liberty's Public Affairs Office in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs policy and legal research utilizing both written and electronic sources, including reviewing statutes, regulations, as well as international agreements.
  • Prepare public policy memoranda as well as legal analysis related to domestic and international public policy issues.
  • Prepares policy position papers for the company for use with Congressional and Executive Branch officials.  Accompanies LM's Public Affairs team to meetings with Congressional and Executive Branch officials.
  • Cover hearings, and relevant meetings for LM's Public Affairs team.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a JD Program.
  • Completion of second year of law school with a competitive GPA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Legislative or executive branch experience.
