Job Description

Essential Job Functions

  • Underwrite offers of coverage to prospective PERMA members and current members in accordance with the sequence and calculation procedures of the pool. Contribution authority limits $250,000. Experience modification factor authority limit 1.40.
  • Determine the discount percentage that should be applied to the new and renewal quotations to achieve the pools profitability goals.
  • Assist the Underwriting Manager with underwriting process for members and/or prospects in excess of $250,000. These quotations must receive appropriate supervisory authorized signatures prior to release.

For all of the PERMA membership and new business prospects:

  • Calculate experience modification factors.
  • Complete underwriting worksheets and loss analysis to meet projected profits
  • Issue coverage contracts through our policy issuance software.
  • Review and process endorsements and payroll audits.
  • Ability to answer brokers and / or member underwriting and coverage questions as needed.
  • Development of ad hoc reports and other underwriting analysis as requested by the Underwriting Manager.
  • High-level ability to counsel clients on risk management solutions, negotiates terms and contracts, and develops relationships with key brokers.
  • Occasionally travel with the potential of staying overnight on current PERMA members.
  • Occasionally traveling with Marketing Department to assist with new business prospects
  • Take a proactive approach to office safety and ergonomics and adhere to all safety policies.

Minimum Requirements: The following are required to enable the employee to perform the essential functions of the job.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Five years or more of underwriting or rating workers compensation coverage.
  • Strong computer software knowledge, e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Reasonable communication skills, both written and oral Valid drivers license
  • Familiarity with insurance agency operations.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree or comparable work experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar position.
