Job Description
ARS Data Analytics organization is responsible for building Advanced Analytics and Business Intelligence solutions/capabilities and contributing to Roadside Services Business objectives by identifying and developing growth and profitability opportunities that enable Allstate Roadside Services to generate profitable market share growth. Turn data into actionable insights and improve business performance. Identify the highest-value opportunities, source the most relevant & trusted data, apply world-class analytics and modeling, and drive data driven decisions across ARS business units.
ARS Analytics & Insights team embraces three key, interdependent components; Data, Analytics, and Insights that will make ARS drive better business decisions. The ARS Analytics & Insights team is responsible for performing extensive data analysis including; ARS data comprehension, collect data, describe data, explore data, and deriving the right insights. The core functions of ARS Analytics & Insights team are 1) Understand what the real business problem is, 2) Create an analytic plan with hypotheses, 3) Collect data, 4) Gather insights, and 5) Make recommendations
The Data Analytics Manager is responsible for sponsoring the design and implementation of highly complex technical and analytical solutions and reporting tools to solve very complex business problems. The individual develops innovative strategic solutions and conducts highly complex partner, operational and/or customer analysis that have a significant impact on the business. The Data Analytics Manager is responsible for conceptualizing the cutting edge analytical approaches, executing the high-volume complex advanced analytics services on an ongoing basis and developing the reusable solutions. The Data Analytics Manager needs to identify all of the possible data points to analyze and drive insights. Be a subject matter expert for assigned business unit and provide advice to business partners on the effective use of data and insights to make better business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Applies demonstrated knowledge of how ARS businesses function and what it takes to for ARS to be successful
- Design and execute the strategy for reporting practices. Create an agile development process and leads and directs efforts to use a variety of tools and/or programming languages to build highly complex reporting, data visualization and/or analytical self service tools.
- Manage and provide technical leadership to large data programs or multiple programs implementation based on the requirement using agile technologies
- Interprets and draws conclusions from business data, demonstrating an understanding of overall business needs and desires that apply to a project or effort
- Servers as a subject matter expert in assigned domain and effectively work with internal ARS business units, Partners and providers to deliver the Reports, Metrics, Insights, and self-service capabilities
- Collaborate with ARS business users and analyze and manage business performance metrics including Actual Time of Arrival (ATA), Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), Average Handle Time (AHT), Severity, First Call Acceptance, Call Center performance, partner reporting, marketing channel effectiveness, sales analysis, customer experience, and processing the claims
- Perform an enablement role to facilitate Business Intelligence Developers and Data Scientists and in locating, understanding and selecting the appropriate ARS data and delivering the Reports, Metrics, Insights, Self-Service, and Models
- Translate business requirements and unstructured business issues into data analytic problems
- Maintain deep business domain expertise in the use of data sources and applications to conduct research and gather the business data & analytical requirements, research data, and perform data preparation
- Define, create, and maintain business Metadata, data mapping, and data lineage
- Troubleshoot data quality issues - identifying root cause/system & documentation/communication of resolution
- Create and maintain excellent data documentation that allows the data to be understood (Metadata) and leveraged for additional use.
- Create best practices for testing/profiling of data to ensure proper operation and accuracy
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis
- Directs the analysis of data to answer business questions using multiple tools
- Oversees efforts to perform a variety of complex to highly complex strategic analyses to identify trends and outliers that are statistically significant; communicates results and impact to management with recommendations to assist with future planning and prioritization
- Leads and directs efforts to identify and communicates how analytical results may contribute as inputs to models
- Utilizes data visualization tools and/or other analytics software to create reports for the team and/or management on the overall performance of one or more business segments
- Directs and leads complex custom analysis on data trends for on-going strategic work
- Makes changes to process based on results
- Creates measures to monitor the effectiveness of efforts in the category; coordinates with leadership around future direction
Development of Reports, Insights, & Self Service
- Servers as a subject matter expert in Partner domain and effectively work with internal ARS business units and Partners to deliver the Reports, Metrics, Market Insights, and self-service capabilities
- Leads and directs efforts to gather and refine requirements to be used in the development of Reports, Metrics, Market Insights, and self-service capabilities for collecting and sharing data
- Provides direction and communicates to leadership on large complex projects
- Leads and directs efforts to use a variety of tools and/or programming languages to build highly complex reporting, data visualization and/or analytical self service tools in order to share data and output of analytical and/or model efforts; researches best practices with other ARS and related industries
- Creates measures to monitor the effectiveness of efforts in the category; coordinates with leadership around future direction
Data Management
- Directs and leads the preparation of large amounts of highly complex inputs for use in analytical and/or modeling efforts
- Manages source system mapping and documentation of highly complex ETL efforts ans works with IT to deliver
- Understands data availability and quality (enterprise wide), performs validations throughout all phases of highly complex ETL efforts
- Provides expertise to peers and other ARSs on how to integrate data across various source systems
- Oversees root cause analysis and dependency analysis for highly complex ETL projects when needed
- Creates measures to monitor the effectiveness of efforts in the category; coordinates with leadership around future direction
People Management/Supervision
- Creates a productive and supportive work environment of highly engaged employees who create highly satisfied customers
- Ensures understanding of business objectives, results, processes, etc. with their direct reports
- Reviews employee work quality and interactions with customers through conducting ride-alongs or sit-alongs and file reviews
- Manages staff and effectively uses performance management to improve and/or reward employee performance's
- Completes performance corrective action plans and
- Participates in checkpoints, goal setting, and PDS
- Coaches employees on performance or behavior opportunities
- Interviews potential employees
- Monitors staffing levels and workloads
- Effectively coaches and provides development/career guidance for direct reports
- Administers company Human Resources policies
Job Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters/MBA in a field such as Math, Business, Computer Science or Data Architecture
- Detailed knowledge of Roadside Network Operations in Insurance industry and a strong understanding of business processes, including business operations, business delivery models and business revenue models
- Ability to interact effectively, and coach others on interacting effectively, with internal or external customers and act with empathy
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of Roadside Service, policies, procedures, and Dispatch systems
- Applies highly advanced industry knowledge to discipline practices, including best practices, to support the business unit
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of computer applications such as Business Objects, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of various programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Java, Hadoop or Ab Initio
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of analytical procedures to reconcile, manipulate, and recognize patterns of data
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of problem solving and preparation of complex reports for analysis
- Applies highly advanced ability to leverage learned technical skills in support of team objectives
- Applies highly advanced negotiation and/or arbitration skills
- Applies highly advanced conflict management and problem resolution skills in managing internal and external customer relationships
- Applies highly advanced problem solving skills to continuously improve business outcomes
- Ability to assist leadership in achieving business unit objectives
- Applies highly advanced knowledge of training facilitation and coaching skills
- Ability to investigate, evaluate and settle highly complex claims
- Provides highly advanced individual decision making within authority limits

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical data analysis results to business people and business processes, challenges and issues to technical people
- Excellent SQL skills, comfortable using a data access tool such as Toad, and Oracle PL/SQL
- Experience with BI tool such as Business Objects and Tableau
- Hands-on development of rich and complex information dashboards, reports and visualizations using Tableau
- Experience using SAS, R, SPSS or other programming language.
