Ryan Specialty Group Underwriting Managers is looking for an Accounting Senior Associate to join our Chicago, IL office. We are a fast paced, energetic and rapidly growing organization that offers a great opportunity for someone interested in further developing their career.

Position Summary:

The Accounting Senior Associate is a support role for the RSGUM Controllership team, which is focused on accurately calculating, recording and documenting financial transactions for all related MGUs. This position will handle journal entries, documentation of support for all journal entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliation preparation and review, financial analysis of information, as well as adhoc project work to keep the financial data of RSGUM in compliance with USGAAP and other regulatory standards. Attention to detail and understanding of accounting concepts and practices are essential.

Essential Functions:

  • Support Controller and Premium Accounting Director in management and execution of month end close activities; preparation of transaction schedules, journal entry, variance analysis, bad debt reserve calculation and other necessary month end calculations.
  • Execute and review reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including cash reconciliations and AR/AP reviews.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Perform quarterly fluctuation analysis on balance sheet accounts.
  • Document key financial processes and the ongoing maintenance of these procedures.
  • Support finance initiatives regarding review of revenue recognition.
  • Assist with optimization projects to improve the efficiency of financial data and month end cycles.
  • Guide and coach Premium Accounting team through transactional hurdles and control/process implementation
  • Assist in compilation of documentation in preparation for audit reviews.
  • Perform special projects as needed to support the accounting function and the company.
  • Be involved in acquisitions and the necessary accounting process relating to the integration of acquisitions.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting required. Masters degree preferred, but not essential.
  • CPA Required
  • Three to four years with a public accounting firm or corporate industry.
  • Strong analytical skills, decision-making capabilities and knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and audit.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in an undefined work environment while remaining a team player to meet team objectives.
  • Ability to take initiative, guide and motivate others toward goal accomplishment.
  • Working knowledge of control frameworks
  • Background in ERP implementations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including, but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel.
