Job Summary
Travelers Enterprise Experience Team is looking for an expert Senior Data Scientist/Lead of Insights and Analysis with exceptional analytical ability and proven success of identifying and solving complex business issues through advanced analytical techniques and creativity. This hand-on position will lead a dynamic team analyzing large amounts of traditional and non-traditional datasets using predictive analytics, machine learning, simulation and optimization techniques to help shape and inform business strategy for the Travelers experience.

Under limited supervision, this position provides senior leadership to a function/functions within Business Intelligence and is the primary point of accountability for assigned functions within Business Intelligence.

Strategic leader and thinker, accountable for leading Business Intelligence team to drive business results.

Limited Supervision: Incumbents use own creativity to get the job done. Decision making is left up to incumbents. Incumbents receive assignments in general terms and are free to work out the details according to their own judgment. Interprets regulations and policies independently.

This job is a Manager: Responsible for setting work objectives and goals for employees and managing their performance. Typically involved in compensation decisions. Employees have a formal reporting relationship to this job.



Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Business Intelligence Business Analysis: Works with business partners to determine how Business Intelligence information and analytic solutions can be leveraged to support enterprise and business strategies, capabilities, and processes.
  • Expert in using common statistical techniques including correlations, regressions, factor analyses, clustering, CHAID, perceptual mapping, etc.
  • Experience identifying the right predictive analytic solution model development approaches for disparate data sources.
  • Flexibility in using statistical techniques in new ways or trying innovative solutions that are non-traditional.
  • Problem solving skills around data manipulation, data anomalies and complex inputs.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with cross-functional teams that have both statistical and non-statistical backgrounds and expertise.
  • Insight and reporting development capabilities including telling a story, creating exhibits and presenting the information so that it can be consumed at all levels of the organization.
  • Serve as the SME on efforts to develop scalable, efficient solutions for large data analyses and model implementation.
  • Produce outputs that drive customer retention, measurable financial results and deliver the best Travelers Customer Experience.
  • Designs and develops information for strategic, planning, operational and analytical purposes in support of decision making by the business.
  • Partners with senior management in developing strategic vision for each business unit, sets tone and direction by clearly articulating vision, and translates into realistic goals.
  • Consults with senior leadership in the development or business strategies and develops operational plans within Business Intelligence; accountable for driving those strategies through others.
  • Ensures quality controls and process improvements are on-going process within areas of accountability.
  • Partners with peers and leaders across organization in implementing strategic initiatives to ensure alignment with Travelers objectives.
  • Leads complex initiatives and projects and/or oversees projects lead by team members. May lead multi-disciplinary or cross-functional work teams.
  • Solves complex problems within area of expertise.
  • Accountable for the recruitment and development of needed talent for meeting long-term business goals.
  • Utilizes strong leadership skills to drive organizational effectiveness and oversee the cost effective implementation of the operating plan.
  • Recognizes, initiates and manages change that impacts the work group/department.
  • May manage Business Intelligence vendors.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent education and 10 years analytics experience or 12 years analytics experience. 6 years managing people. Advanced knowledge of analytics tools.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelors degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or Business preferred.
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Statistics, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in Business Intelligence or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of management experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of project management leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working on broad/business-wide projects or initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working across functional areas within organizations preferred.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of subject matter in order to solve unusual as well as common work problems and advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource to organization.
  • Expert understanding of statistical analyses and predictive modeling.
  • Understanding of how to interpret and manipulate large and disparate datasets in complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience developing and socializing highly effective KPI's and driver performance.
  • Able to communicate business impact and consult with business partners on developing a strategy that is grounded in solid statistical findings.
