Job Summary
Travelers Enterprise Experience Team is looking for a Programming and Data Architecture Lead with proven success of leading a team of Programmers and Data Engineers to build both customer facing interfaces along with sophisticated back-end architected solutions. This hands-on position will lead a two pronged integrated and dynamic team of Programmers and Data Managers. This person will design and lead the programming workflow and standards for listening post surveys as well as developing best in class data aggregation and big data visualization. This Lead will provide application and infrastructure technical expertise, analysis and specifications to meet business requirements. Collaboration with the insights team will also be essential to ensure the right information is being collected and made available for analyses that will help to shape and inform business strategy for the Travelers experience.

This job is a Manager: Responsible for setting work objectives and goals for employees and managing their performance. Typically involved in compensation decisions. Employees have a formal reporting relationship to this job.

This job works under General Direction: Establishes procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives in a broad area of work. Generally final results are reviewed.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Data Acquisition, Prep and Exploration: Directs the work of lower level employees. Responsibilities include performing complex analysis, expert level design, configuration and programming functions for impactful and visible projects. Leads investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents. Ensures work complies with Travelers standards, processes, and protocols. Identifies gaps and recommends solutions. Develops and applies complex data derivations, business transformation rules, and data requirements. Recommends best practices regarding data usage. Leads a portfolio of projects, working across departments and business areas. Manages the effective use of line of business resources to implement ongoing projects, enhancements, initiatives, and/or problem resolution. Creates complex (technology and features) data visualizations techniques to help support data exploration. Liaise with Information Technology to architect and develop strategic data solutions including transformation logic, rules, tables, as well as business requirements, governance, and specifications. Utilizes business knowledge to explain technical activities in business terms. Acts as resource for lower level employees. Interacts with diverse, sometimes large stakeholder groups. Analytic Data Discovery: Leads the operationalizing and automation of complex (more systems, data sets and streams, size of data sets more substantial) products into business. Designs and leads integration of analytic data products and products, including pilots and proof of concept. Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects and/or enhancements. Analytic Support: Consults on projects, resolves complex data issues and provides training and education to clients and staff. Ensures customer satisfaction through professional communication, follow-up, and responsiveness to issues. Consultation: Serve as data expert for significant projects with broad impact to business and enterprise performance. Builds, maintains, and utilizes partnerships across the enterprise. Develops & drives data strategies within the context of business need. Integrates work efforts within respective business portfolios. Manages day-to-day work of professional/technical staff. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
6 years of relevant experience with data tools, techniques, and manipulation required. 3 Years of Leadership experience.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Expert understanding of database structures, principles and practices.
  • Experience with data transformations and reporting tools on SQL databases.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills relative to big data.
  • Proven understanding of Hadoop or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of how to interpret and manipulate large and disparate datasets in complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience building data flows and reports with KPI's and driver performance.
  • Experience creating reporting visualizations for all levels of the organization.
  • Extremely detail oriented and comfortable for setting up processes and controls for data management.

  • Advanced experience with scripting languages and functional programming e.g. Python, JavaScript, etc.=
