Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group is one of the worlds top ten property/casualty insurance carriers with over 40,000 employees worldwide. We have an opportunity available for a Senior Portfolio Underwriter to work out of our Warren, NJ office.

Summary

The Senior Portfolio Underwriter is responsible to underwrite profitable Commercial Lines book of business for domestic accounts within assigned territory in accordance with Corporate and Field office goals.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites the Commercial Lines risks within delegated underwriting authority. Applies appropriate pricing techniques according to company filings and state/bureau conformance within MSMM Underwriting guidelines.
  • Monitors underwriting results and premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.
  • Determines if reinsurance is needed and procures quotes from various internal and external markets.
  • Develops and modifies policy working (with appropriate approvals) when standard text is not appropriate.
  • Coordinate with inter-company departments as well as producers and insureds to ensure appropriate account management standards are maintained.
  • Prepares files in accordance with underwriting department guidelines.
  • Works with production underwriters and Underwriting Manager to effectively underwrite and manage assigned renewals.
  • Assist in new business underwriting and occasionally travels to agents and customers as coordinated by production underwriters and Business Development Manager.

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of strong middle market commercial lines underwriting experience.
  • Strong experience underwriting large multi-line accounts (average account size $100K to $1m).
