Role Value Proposition:

The Insurance Operations Intern will partner with members of the BHF Operations team to support day-to-day functions associated with the management and oversight of third party administrators (TPAs) responsible for BHF life insurance policy and annuity contract administration. The intern will assist with process documentation, data analytics and trending, and operations process analysis and improvement. By working alongside experienced Operations team members, the intern will have an opportunity to understand how Operations supports the mission of Brighthouse Financial in an outsourced environment.

This is a 10-week paid internship June 3 through August 9, 2019 in our Charlotte, NC office. The Brighthouse Financial Intern Program offers work experience with practical application and skill development as well as professional learning/development opportunities, networking events including senior leader interaction, community service events and competitive pay.

Key Responsibilities:

Potential internship assignments include:

  • Procedural documentation work with the business to review and revise/refine TPA operating guidelines and procedures based on current experience and/or customer feedback
  • Data analytics utilize call log reports, service levels, and other data elements to perform trending analysis on the customer problem resolution process; work with the call center and escalation desk to identify negative/inefficient trends
  • Process analysis and improvement work with the business to identify and implement process improvement initiatives based on available data, customer experience metrics, or other business factors; this would include process documentation using tools like MS Visio and use of statistical software packages
  • Special projects and ad-hoc analysis as needed

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

We are recruiting candidates who are pursuing a bachelors degree in management, operations, industrial engineering, or similar, with a graduation date between December 31, 2019 August 31, 2020. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Consistent track record of outstanding academic performance
  • Internship or academic background in operations/management which includes experience with MS Excel (including advanced functions such as Pivot Tables) and MS Visio
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound judgement, professionalism and discretion
  • Strong business analytical abilities, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
