BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for handling assigned claims from initial assignment to closure as well as supervising Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s) handling Liability claims. Also, will provide assistance in various administrative functions associated with the Liability Line of Business (LOB), and will liaison with Account Management, Underwriting, Risk Control and Finance departments, as needed

Determine coverage and evaluate exposure to company.

Establishment and updating of reserves within established authority level with direct reporting to VP Large Casualty Claims on reserves over granted authority limits.

Directly or indirectly negotiating claim settlements within established authority level with direct reporting to VP Large Casualty Claims on settlements over granted authority limits.

Coordinate litigation management efforts on claims to include selection of counsel when appropriate, and the monitoring of counsel performance in accordance with department litigation guidelines.

Directing and advising Third Party Administrator (TPA) as to desired claim handling. Communicate with TPAs to obtain necessary claim details.

Processing of reimbursement requests, vendor check requests, and establish claim escrow accounts in accordance with department procedures.

Documentation of claim files as required by department procedures.

Identify claims with reinsurance and provide initial and subsequent updates according to department procedures.

Assist Account Management team with the Liability TPA and Self Administration approvals, as needed.

Communicate with Underwriting, Risk Control, Finance, and Account Management departments regarding problem accounts, large losses and specific TPA issues and concerns, when appropriate.

Liaison with Underwriting department regarding specific account information, pre-quotes, etc. when requested as well as attendance at monthly or quarterly Large Casualty Pre-renewal meetings.

Assist in continued development of the Liability LOB claim handling procedures.

Assist in the continued development and review of management reports needed for the appropriate supervision and oversight of the Liability LOB.

Coordination and oversight of the annual TPA Audit process for the Liability LOB.

Travel on an “as needed” basis for TPA Audits, Mediations, Mock Trials, Trials, and Client Meetings, seminars and conferences as required.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s) in the handling of claims within the Liability LOB.

Supervision and oversight of direct reports in the administration of Liability claims, including the quality of work performed and in compliance with department policies and procedures.

Triage and coordination of new claims and pending caseload assignments.

Responsible for the quality of work performed by Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s).

Responsible for completion of quarterly desk audits for direct reports.

Responsible for the monitoring of performance and the completion of annual performance appraisals for direct reports.

Responsible for the timely approval and administration, supervision and oversight of appropriate case reserves across the Liability LOB in line with the established Liability Reserve Protocol. Direct reporting to VP Large Casualty Claims on reserves over granted authority limits.

Responsible for the monitoring of mediation and trial exposures and the administration, supervision and oversight of appropriate settlement authority across the Liability LOB in line with the established guidelines. Direct reporting to VP Large Casualty Claims on matters over granted authority limits.

Review all open claims in region with SN incurred between $350,000 and $1,000,000 on supervisor diary.

Review closed claims of Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s).

Direct reporting to VP Large Casualty Claims on all matters outside granted authority levels.

Coordinate TPA audits for region.

Responsible for hiring and onboarding/training of new Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s) and coordination of on-going training of direct reports.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Special projects and assistance as may be required.

Assist with the TPA (TAR) evaluations and coordination of required documents for the Liability LOB.

Assist with the updating of Third Party Administrator Master Service Agreements, Supplements and Exhibits as may be requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must be a motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently.

Must be proficient with Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook applications.

Seven to ten years’ experience in Liability claims adjusting and litigation management with an insurance carrier or Third Party Administrator required. Experience adjusting Commercial Auto Liability, and General Liability Claims Required. Prior supervisory experience is a plus.

Experience adjusting Texas Nonsubscriber, Public Entity (Professional Liability), Cyber, Excess, Umbrella and Construction Liability Claims preferred.

Must have strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience analyzing coverage issues and drafting reservation of rights and coverage letters required.

Experience adjusting claims in multiple jurisdictions a plus. 

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university required.
