Overview

The AmTrust Unique Risk Underwriting (URU) Division is a team of senior professionals (with capital markets, actuarial, accounting and insurance backgrounds) based in New York, Bermuda, London, Dublin and Luxembourg, and focused on structuring re/insurance solutions for clients. Operations are predominately but not limited to the property and casualty field. Transactions include strategic acquisitions, captive solutions, life settlements and structured re/insurance. Business is conducted on a direct and reinsurance basis through brokered and direct channels, and is worldwide in scope. Responsibilities

AmTrust is seeking a senior accountant/financial analyst to perform accounting and back office tasks for its portfolio of in force transactions and financial analysis and research of proposed transactions.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Preparation of day-to-day accounting, ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and procedures including preparation of quarterly reports for AmTrust Group Accounting
  • Bank administration and reconciliation
  • Monitor, maintain and, if necessary, propose improvement of accounting control environment
  • Preparation of financial reports for management review
  • Review and analysis of 3rd party financial statements
  • Audit of in force transactions including onsite client visit
  • Accounting and tax analysis of proposed transactions to assess feasibility and financial impact for all parties
  • Day to day liaison with external auditors and other stakeholders (i.e. banks, etc)
  • Development of expertise in accounting, tax and regulatory issues

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant, CPA, ACCA or equivalent would be considered a strong asset
  • At least 4 years accounting & auditing experience in (re)insurance
  • Good understanding of US GAAP with experience in derivative (ASC 815), investment (ASC 320), Fair value (820 ), Transfer & Servicing and Insurance (ASC 944) accounting
  • Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software, although not a prerequisite, would be beneficial
  • Fluency in English
  • Detail oriented, well organized, pragmatic, hands on mentality, proactive and open minded, able to self-review, oriented towards process simplification
  • A high level of accuracy in dealing with documents and attention to details
  • Ability to work remotely with team members located in US, UK and Luxembourg
  • Team player that enjoys taking responsibility and is responsible for own deliverables
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Willingness to take initiative and be comfortable working in a small dynamic environment
  • A multinational context, with regular contact with other locations which might include some travel.
