Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Total Rewards, the Benefits Manager is responsible for the overall administration of employee benefits for US Operations. Provides leadership in the administration of the Companys various health and welfare programs by providing guidance, expertise, and direction, to 3 direct reports ensure legal compliance and exceptional services. Programs include medical (including stop loss), dental, vision, life and disability, voluntary supplemental health plans, wellness plans, health spending and reimbursement accounts, flexible spending accounts, and 401k administration.

Responsibilities

  • Manages daily administration and compliance for all employee benefits plans, including health and welfare, income protection, leave management, retirement, and Affordable Care Act.
  • Provides ongoing training, education and leadership to three staff members to ensure compliance and timely processing of enrollments, terminations, status changes.
  • Oversee and respond to claim appeals, large claim management, inquiries from the legal area, review of daily generated Lawson reports,etc.
  • Work with insurance consultants/brokers to initiate and coordinate annual renewals, procurement of benefit programs, and annual enrollment.
  • Manages annual enrollment by preparing all communications including benefits summary material, open enrollment packets, enrollment tools, website updates, and plan change notifications, as well as organizing announcements, promotions, etc.
  • Oversees implementation of new benefit programs and vendors. Prepare announcement materials, review and approve summary plan documents and other materials used for communicating benefit information to employees.
  • Oversee regulatory audits of employee dependents and dropped records, to ensure legal compliance and adherence to policy and plan provisions. Responsible for compliance with both internal and external audits.
  • Respond to complex benefit inquires and escalated complaints by providing benefits counseling and ensuring equitable and courteous resolution
  • Manages LOA process with STD carrier and FMLA outsourcing provider to ensure compliance and accurate communications to employees, managers and HR team members.
  • Works with 401k plan record-keeper to resolve employee questions, ensure records are accurate and communications are meet all compliance requirements.
  • Ensure all plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions are maintained with current provisions.
  • Working with Benefits Accounting Specialist, ensures all contributions and loan repayments are timely, including loan repayments for employees on LOA.
  • Oversees Crawford Scholarship program eligibility and funding.
  • Oversees the outsourcing of the Defined Benefit Pension plan to ensure accurate data from HRIS and provides counsel to Retirees regarding contact information for benefit payment estimates and payments. Manages QDROs.
  • Manages the annual plan audits, testing and provides required reporting.
  • Responsible for all activities to ensure plans are compliant with ERISA , DOL & state reporting requirements, including non-discrimination testing, 5500 reporting/filing, Summary Annual Reports, ACA reporting compliance, etc.
  • Evaluates budgets and continuously monitors employee benefits programs to ensure competiveness in the market place. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed; conduct research and inquire with consultants to document and understand current trends in management practices with regards to selecting and managing benefit programs.
  • Partners with Director of Total Rewards in administration of Deferred Compensation Plan, SERP, Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Upholds the Crawford Code of Conduct

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related discipline. CEBS or CBP preferred.
  • Must have at least 5-7 years of employee benefits administration or Human Resources experience; 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of general benefits, including health and welfare, and retirement plans. Applicants should also have knowledge and ability to share information relative to best management practices, technical developments, and current trends related to employee benefits within a corporate environment.
  • Must possess adequate Microsoft Office Suite skills for creating reports and employee communications
  • Experience in Lawson HRIS is preferred
