Life Underwriting Manager

Currently seeking an experienced Life Underwriting Manager!

This position is REMOTE (work from home)

In this role you will be expected to help control workflow and demand requirements for your team of Life Underwriters to make sure that quality and time service commitments are being met. You will also be responsible for developing your plan to address any issues that arise in this area.

As the team manager you will also be responsible for evaluation of your team’s performance and providing feedback to senior leadership. If needed you will need to be able to develop action plans as well as be a day to day coach and mentor to lesser experienced Life Underwriters. As the Team Manager you will also conduct underwriting audits to ensure accuracy.

The Team Manager will also typically be the point person for client contact calls. This is brokerage underwriting so you will be called on to help to foster and develop client relationships, handle complaints, do some light travel to client locations and also represent the company from time to time at industry events.    

As the team manager you will also be called on to take part in special project work and represent the company as a SME for Life Underwriting. You may also be asked to provide specific expertise on substandard or impaired risk business (Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiac, etc). You will also interact with the Chief Underwriter to discuss areas like developing UW guidelines, workflow, manual reviews, etc.

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree is preferred or if no degree FLMI, FALU is highly desirable.  

Experience

10+ years of (brokerage) underwriting experience with significant experience in large case underwriting as well as, financial underwriting. Significant experience with complex medical impaired risk/substandard cases.

3-5 years management or team lead experience

PC knowledge to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
