Job Description
Allstate is looking for a Full-Stack Application Developer to join our dynamic team of java developers in Northbrook, IL, who are building the Life Sales Platform (LSP). LSP is the integration layer that allows Allstate and 3rd party applications to communicate with Life systems. LSP is a java-based microservice architecture, open API platform supporting Life and Property & Casualty Pre-Sales and Sales Products. The team practices agile scrum methodologies and adheres to principles put forth by the lean startup and lean enterprise movements. The team puts the system user at the center of everything they do; ensuring that users receive the most value out of the products being developed. They architect and design their own systems to deliver their products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They are highly focused on test driven development, continuous delivery and innovation. They own and manage running their application in production, and ultimately become accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving the KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
- Critiques and evaluates detailed business, functional, and high-level technical requirements (including recovery, security and audit)
- Evaluates detailed technical design components and acts as a referral expert in appropriate languages, data structures, vended packages, techniques and design methods
- Maintains component design standards
- Designs solutions for high-complexity projects
- Ensures that design reviews are scheduled and executed. Provides feedback and recommends solutions. Ensure that design standards and documentation are followed
- Assists with detailed project estimating and milestone planning. Reviews and validate accuracy of others estimates and works with project managers in continuous process improvement for estimating
- Contributes to determining programming approach, tools, and techniques that best meet the business requirements. Promotes and defines development standards
- Performs coding of complex modules, as needed
- Ensures project change management approach is followed and that enhancements are appropriately prioritized and developed, and all documentation is completed appropriately
- Acts as technical expert for Band B and Band C level application developers
- Ensures code review is conducted and certify that code meets quality standards. Reviews and critiques code presented by team members and ensures code review is conducted and certifies that code meets quality standards
- Leads and organizes testing reviews. Tracks and resolves complex defects and assists in planning efforts of complex functional tests in support of Quality Control (QC)
- Defines and manage process by which support and technical assistance is performed
- Performs root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of problem and manages the resolution of complex problems
- Ensures delivery of change management activities supporting production deployments to Developers, Quality Control Analysts, and Environment Management personnel
- Reviews application configuration
- Manages vendor relationships
Job Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters/MBA degree in a field such as Computer Science or Engineering
- 6+ years of developing and implementing systems at scale.
- Experience Building Microservice Architecture
- Experience Building and Documenting Open API Platforms
- Experience in application design, design patterns and performance tuning.
- Be productive in a fast-paced environment and work well with a diverse team of technical SMEs
- Ability to clearly write technical specifications.
- Java/J2EE software development including Spring Framework using Annotation, JPA2, and Hibernate frameworks
- Good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Must be able to clearly explain frameworks concepts and design patterns.
- Web services development experience using Spring, Spring-Boot, REST Web Services, JSON. Experience on SOAP and XML is plus.
- Knowledge of Relational Databases Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate 4+)
- insight of Java, J2EE internals and Hibernate
- Ability to lead and earn the respect of fellow developers

- Web Services: Spring REST / JSON and SOAP XML; Micro Service: CRUD Pattern, Open API Standard, OAuth, Tomcat, IBM WebSphere 9.x IHS and Application Servers
- Hibernate 5.x, JPA Persistence, Query Languages - Criteria, Hql and Named Queries, Caching with EhCacheOracle 12c (JSON Document Storage) - Simple Oracle Document Access (SODA)Microsoft SQL Server
- Developer Tools: Idea IntelliJ, SOAP UI or Post Man, SQL Developer, JIRA, Confluence, GITHub, Gradle, Jenkins, Junit, Mockito, PowerMock
