Liberty Mutual Surety offers an exciting career as a Surety Underwriting Assistant in our Cincinnati, OH office to provide administrative and underwriting support for our Surety Underwriting team. Responsibilities:

  • Process Surety business through data input supporting one or more product lines within a defined territory applying knowledge and understanding of rating scenarios, and producing error free work through strong attention-to-detail. This includes but is not limited to: prepare and execute new bonds, riders, enter rates and code new business, renewals, cancellations, endorsements, and reinstatements.
  • Provide underwriting support to Surety Underwriting team (Underwriters, Bond Managers, etc) and legendary service to internal and external customers, including agents and clients within a defined territory. Assists with customer inquiries and questions, as well as the input of new bond transactions.
  • Retrieve information using various systems and updates agency information as appropriate, including billing, work flow and contractor's database systems. Prepare and verify documents for accuracy prior to entering into systems.
  • Assist Accounting team with billing, premium and commission discrepancies upon request.
  • Uses excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with Home Office and field teams, Customer Accounting, Surety IT, Surety Claims, attorneys, and additional internal and external customers.
  • Review and reconciles internal system reports as directed by Manager.
  • Apply independent judgment to complete complex or specialized assignments/tasks working within defined policies and procedures to optimize planned business results.
  • Apply technical knowledge of Surety Operations Processing policies and procedures acquired through experience in job area or through technical training. Identifies opportunity for process improvement and shares with manager and peers.
  • Performs technical support within the office and assists in the resolution of problems in coordination with Surety's IT Department and Application Specialists.
  • Process, coordinate and/or validate data and documents to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide administrative and general office/clerical support as needed.
  • May participate on key special projects as requested, and perform additional assignments as instructed by manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 1 year with a preference of 3 + years surety bond underwriting assistant experience or related experience desired, with an emphasis in supporting complex transaction workflow.
  • Prior Surety Underwriting Support experience with an understanding of surety rating and processing functions preferred.
  • Prior experience working in Surety applications is strongly preferred and desired.
  • Learns quickly and demonstrates an open attitude when facing new problems, processes, or procedures. Takes advantage of diverse sources by proactively seeking information to solve problems.
  • Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment as well as independently.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize own work flow and complete assignments in a high-volume work environment producing accurate, error-free work in order to accomplish the most important individual and business objectives.
  • Strong PC skills, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Grade 8 or 10 based on experience
