Production Underwriter - Tampa, FL

Professional Protector Plan, a division of Brown & Brown, is growing and seeking an exceptional individual with proven discipline, drive, and commitment to join our team as Production Underwriter.  Professional Protector Plan (PPP) for Dentists offers comprehensive insurance coverage including malpractice, professional liability, general liability, employment practice liability, workers' compensation, and property insurance products, for Dentists in all 50 states. 

The hired individual will perform underwriting functions to determine acceptability of new and renewal business and maintain integrity of underwriting practices in dealing with procedures and carrier personnel. They will also monitor activities of support staff.  

Essential Duties & Functions

• Regularly initiate contact with producers/administrators to solicit new business opportunities and promote Dental Program production goals.
• Respond to and underwrite new business submissions in a timely manner.
• Maintain contact with carrier underwriting personnel; advise of performance and response to identified needs. Suggest improvements in policy coverage or amendments to improve or maintain program results.
• Adhere to carrier and internal underwriting guidelines and performance standards. Review submissions or circumstances and resolve, if within authority, or refer with recommended action.
• Travel to State Administrator’s office to promote the profitable growth of the book of business in that state and to review their internal underwriting procedures to ensure they are in compliance with their underwriting authority.
• Underwrite and service a renewal book of business for assigned territories.
• Manage retention and profitability per PPP and carrier strategies.
• Back up to Underwriters and/or Underwriting Supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years commercial insurance experience, P&C and Liability Coverages
• 4-40, 2-20, or similar insurance license

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Requires a comprehensive understanding of the policy form and structure for various types of insurance, specifically professional liability.
• Ability to read, interpret, explain and/or verify specific procedures.
• Requires effective written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of producer, administrator and internal staff.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in adhering to business and personnel guidelines.
• Ability to motivate peers in performance of their duties.
