Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Accountant I performs accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and investment reconciliation, and other accounting duties according to established procedures. The Accountant I reports to a manager in the Accounting/Finance Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and maintains accurate and complete accounting records and files
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and/or annual member billings and disburses invoices
  • Monitors accounts receivable aging for past due balances, and effectively handles collection efforts
  • Prepares checks received for remote deposit, posts receipts, and reconciles receipts to invoices
  • Coordinates and prepares monthly general check runs and claims check runs as necessary for affected clients
  • Monitors client cash logs
  • Prepares vendor 1099s each January
  • Performs monthly bank and investment account reconciliations
  • Effectively researches, tracks, and resolves or properly refers accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
  • Assists with quarter end closing
  • Assists with the annual financial audit

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interfaces with clients and other staff to collect and prepare financial data.
  • Performs monthly reconciliations and various balance sheet account controls to safeguard quality assurance.
  • Provides suggestions and gives and accepts feedback positively.
  • Performs other assignments (or duties) as required.
  • Updates job knowledge by studying new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; and maintaining personal networks.
  • Effectively communicates with manager and Director of Accounting with regard to work assignments, absences, and other matters concerning the department.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize in order to meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four-year degree in Accounting/Finance, or Associate degree and two years accounting experience.
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
