Job Overview:

The Subrogation Claims Specialist’s primary purpose is to deliver a level of claims and customer service that exceeds our member’s expectations.  Under moderate supervision, he/she will be responsible for identifying, researching and following up on potential subrogation claims for, primarily, workers’ compensation claims and automobile physical damage claims.   

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes internal claims system to review and evaluate all newly reported losses for subrogation potential
  • Follow up on potential claims to determine if subrogation is viable
  • Places all parties on notice of FSRMF’s right of recovery
  • Develop an aggressive plan of action to resolve subrogation issues
  • Regular and consistent follow up on subrogation issues through resolution
  • Document claim file notes with all subrogation activity
  • Communicates with adverse party(s) and insurance companies for claim resolution and payment
  • Receives and/or returns telephone calls in a timely manner
  • Timely management of assigned tasks by system diary
  • Assigns subrogation litigation files to counsel
  • Oversees subrogation litigation; attends mediations when appropriate
  • Monitor and maximize subrogation recovery rate and percentage
  • May assist in requesting medical records and/or police reports as directed
  • Contributes to existing initiatives that save on claim expenses or creates greater efficiency in claim handling processes
  • Participates in special projects as determined by management
  • Maintains effective team member and office-wide relations

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training/experience preferred

Required Technical Skills:

  • Five or more years’ subrogation experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively deal with multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong analytic and process management skills
  • Ability to work together in situations when actions are interdependent, and a team is mutually responsible to produce a result
  • Computer literacy including MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook
