Responsibilities and Duties

  • In addition to essential functions of a Claims Analyst, handles more complex cases and/or industry specific cases that include higher exposure with an increase in severity and complexity.
  • Mastery of the Claims Analyst functions and RiverStone systems.
  • Mentors and guides less experienced handlers.
  • Assists the unit managers with departmental problem solving.
  • Manages external relationships including brokers, cedents and third party administrators.
  • Serves on Companywide committees and projects as assigned.
  • Directly handles and/or assists in monitoring, reviewing, and coordinating the activities involving assumed reinsurance claims, including analysis of both reinsurance contract and underlying direct coverage issues, establishment of adequate reserves, and the resolution and closure of claims.
  • Reviews loss notices; confirms and interprets reinsurance contract and underlying policy coverages; establishes adequate reserves; and investigates and handles claims involving a variety of reinsurance contracts. Analyzes the reinsurance presentation relative to the contract (s) and specific of the underlying claim relative to liability, damages, allocation and number of occurrences.
  • Assists inhouse and/or outside counsel relative to claims in formal and informal dispute. May serve as support, deponent and/or witness in disputed matters. Participates in settlement negotiations.
  • Ensures proper file setup, reserving, general handling and application of company procedure.
  • Records specific claims information and reports as appropriate to a manager relative to pertinent financial and general statistical records.
  • Maintains diary control, investigates, analyzes, and reports to ensure maintenance of proper reserves to reflect the companys exposure and reports to our Reinsurance Department to assist in providing notice to retrocessionaires and the Reinsurance Departments recovery of specific amounts when payment exceeds the companys retention.
  • Handles large volume of diverse and dynamic claims effectively.
  • Performs special projects and assignments related to area of authority as necessary.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships.
  • Assists in Due Diligence inquiries as assigned.
  • Travels as required.
  • Obtains and maintain claims adjuster licenses in those states requiring them. Organizational:

    Required Education

    Four-year college degree required or equivalent work experience.

    Required Experience

    Minimum of 5 years of assumed and/or direct claims handling experience.
