Assurants internal investment portfolio (approximately $11 billion) is managed by its in-house asset management division, Assurant Asset Management (AAM). In addition, Assurant Investment Management (AIM), an SEC registered investment advisor (RIA), was recently formed to leverage internal credit and real estate expertise to begin a targeted third-party asset management business. This includes establishing both a real estate fund and a collateralized loan obligation (CLO) platform.

Assurant is hiring an experienced individual to play a key role within the Investment Operations team which is responsible for middle office functions, providing support and timely / accurate data across all Assurants investment platforms and to our investment teams & partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop new and improve, execute, and support existing processes to support the entire middle office operations lifecycle including post-trade processes, corporate actions, collateral management, and cash flow forecasting
  • Develop new processes and improve, execute, and support existing processes around regulatory, banking, compliance, accounting, and reporting requirements
  • Evaluate and improve controls and processes along the trade lifecycle
  • Improve efficiency of existing processes to mitigate risk and reduce errors
  • Improve data verification from various sources to improve downstream reporting
  • Additional duties as assigned

Basic qualifications include:

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in back / middle office operations within an asset management organization
  • 1+ years experience with industry tools such as Bloomberg, Markit, Yieldbook, order management systems and/or similar tools
  • 1+ years experience with process automation using tools such as SQL, Visual Basic/VBA, or strong Excel
  • Limited travel required

Other requirements and preferred qualifications:

  • Degree focused in accounting, finance, economics, business, or information systems preferred.
  • Background in fixed income middle office operations
  • Experience working with a full range of asset classes
  • Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and improving operational controls and procedures
  • Experience working closely with investment professionals at all levels
  • Experience with industry tools such as Bloomberg, Markit, Yieldbook, order management systems and/or similar tools
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply those to process automation (such as SQL, Visual Basic/VBA, strong Excel)
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and faced paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team but also understand instructions quickly and work independently
  • Organizational skills and flexibility in handling multiple demands and changing priorities
  • Ability to problem solve, provide new ideas and suggestions
  • Excellent follow-up and follow-through skills
  • Self-motivated.
  • Diagnose issues, mitigate risk and make recommendations toward process improvements
  • Aptitude in leadership
  • As a covered person of a registered investment advisor the position will require adherence to policies including, but not limited to, a code of ethics and personal trading policy
