Role Value Proposition:

The Lead Annuity Valuation Actuary will manage and oversee all aspects of the actuarial valuation (GAAP, Statutory, economic and Tax), financial reporting and SOX compliance for the annuity business lines in the new organization. He or she will have responsibility of ensuring Brighthouse applies and meets the reserve and valuation standards under various reporting basis. This individual will report directly to the Valuation Lead, providing insights and advices regarding financial reporting changes in the industry. He/she will also collaborate with other department leads to achieve strategic goals.

  • Other Key Stakeholders: Chief Actuary, Life Valuation Lead, Experience Studies and New Business Data Analytics Lead, Corporate Projection Lead, o-CAM Lead, Reinsurance Lead, Strategic Actuarial Initiatives Head

Travel: Infrequent Travel Required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead reserving and financial reporting for the annuity lines of business products
  • Direct the team for monthly, quarterly and annual valuation production duties for Statutory and GAAP financial reporting for the annuity business line
  • Track and review SOX and MAR controls to ensure quality and integrity of financial reports
  • Support data requests from reinsurance, pricing, controllers and audit departments
  • Sign off on the GAAP, Statutory and Tax reserves results
  • Monitor changes in actuarial regulations, assess company standards and implement changes to ensure compliance
  • Collaborate with other actuarial group heads such as Strategic Actuarial Initiatives, o-CAM, Experience Studies and New Business Data Analytics, Client Solutions, and Corporate Projections to support the organizations strategic objectives
  • Lead the development of actuarial talent in the annuity valuation department

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities within an actuarial department
  • Strong interpersonal and project/people management skills
  • Leadership experience in a large organization preferred
  • Experience in U.S. GAAP, Statutory and Tax reserving for variable and fixed annuities
  • Experience with valuation software such as PolySystems, Prophet, Pathwise, etc.
  • Knowledge of Annuity insurance product mechanics
  • Knowledge of valuation and financial reporting processes
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Must have strong ability to make decisions; ability to consider multiple aspects while making business decisions
