The Business Continuity Planner provides subject matter expertise in the areas of Business Continuity planning and risk mitigation for the Hazard Insurance and Property Damages product lines and processing center sites.


Primary Job Accountabilities/Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the development, testing and communications of Business Continuity planning for the Global Home Lending Solutions (GHLS) business products and processing sites.
  • Work with leadership to maintain and manage the GHLS Business Continuity program, supporting all activities necessary to enable LS to respond to any disaster, or business interruption.
  • Ensure that we can continue to operate and meet business and client objectives and requirements in the event of a business interruption, or disaster.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the development of the LS Business Continuity Plans and associated documentation.
  • Foster ongoing awareness of business recovery requirements and strategies with business/Operations partners, both internal and external to Assurant.

Enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery 10%


  • Interface with the enterprise Business Continuity Management Team to ensure an understanding and compliance with corporate standards and regulatory and industry requirements for Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery.
  • Development, Maintenance and Communications of Business Continuity Plans 50%
  • Develop, update and maintain Business Continuity Plans for GHLS product lines and Operations.
  • Coordinate and document Business Continuity recovery solutions working with functional departments.
  • Conduct business process analysis and needs assessments to align Business Continuity Plans.
  • Develops Business Continuity problem resolution by analyzing processing problems, recommending solutions and working with other departments to test and implement solutions.
  • Responsible for the ownership and maintenance of all documentation related to the Business Continuity Plans.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Plans for new clients, systems and processes/procedures in various departments and works with Plan owners to implement them.
  • Provides systems, administrative, and operational support in assisting with the development and implementation of new or expansion of existing products, processes and accounts as it relates to Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery.
  • Establish, maintain, and test call trees
  • Assist with updating and maintenance of standard Business Continuity documents and maintenance of the LS Business Continuity SharePoint site.
  • Attend professional meetings, read literature, and participate in training or other educational offerings to keep abreast of new developments and technologies related to Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and targets and work under pressure.
  • Carries out analytical assignments that are varied and possibly difficult.


Testing of Business Continuity Plans 40%


  • Develop Business Continuity Plan exercises and tests as required.
  • Take the lead in organizing and coordinating the appropriate testing resources required to conduct a Business Continuity test/exercise.
  • Maintain quality by performing audits to ensure integrity, adherence to Business Continuity standards and analyze and provide overall support to internal and external customers.
  • Create scenarios to re-establish operations from various types of business disruptions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement or mitigation of business interruption and other risks caused by business, regulatory, or industry-specific change initiatives.


Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:


  • Bachelors degree in Business Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Audit or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2 years of Business Continuity and/or Disaster Recovery
  • 2 years of developing, updating, and maintaining Business Continuity Plans for various functions and/or businesses
  • 2 years in participating in technology based recovery exercises including managing incident notification and escalation
  • 2 years of performing quality audits to ensure integrity, adhering to business continuity standards and analyzing and providing overall support to internal and external customers.
  • 2 years of developing Business Continuity Plan problem resolution by analyzing processing problems, recommending solutions and working with other departments to test and implement solutions.
  • 2 years of establishing, maintaining, and test call trees.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Technology experience, exhibiting a sound aptitude for learning technical systems and environments
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills in disciplines of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery.
  • Appropriate certifications or willingness to obtain (DRII, CBCP, MBCP).
  • Provides systems, administrative, and operational support in assisting with the development and implementation of new or existing products, processes and accounts as it relates to BCP/DR.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement or mitigation of business interruption and other risks caused by business, regulatory, or industry-specific change initiatives.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and targets & work under pressure.
  • Able to carry out analytical assignments that are varied and possibly difficult.
  • Able to attend professional meetings, read literature, and participate in training or other educational offerings to keep abreast of new developments and technologies related to disaster recovery and business continuity.
