Under general supervision, provide Claim business partners with the scientific and engineering aspects of a loss so they have the information available to make decisions. This job does not manage others This job works under General Supervision: Incumbent independently performs a variety of duties, including potentially complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments (e.g. assigned customers, claims or other specified set of responsibilities); is expected to set priorities and meet specific goals and objectives of the function or unit. (Typically pertains to advanced/operational, senior professional, unit supervisor)

Serve as a technical expert in one or more of the following areas: fire science, origin and cause investigations, failure analysis of electrical, mechanical and material systems and components, warnings and instructions, product liability, code evaluation, accident reconstruction, computer modeling, tool mark analysis, analysis of building systems and construction techniques, fire protection and alarm system evaluation, analytical chemistry and other forensic endeavors required to complete an investigation. Be familiar with the proper elements of a forensic investigation including proper documentation, rules of evidence, scene and lab safety, as well as the various procedures and policies existing within the Travelers. Travel to loss scenes to assist with and become part of the investigative team and ensure that various aspects of the investigation including evidence collection and preservation, witness interviews, analysis of the scene and to provide technical advice and consultation to attorneys and claims staff associated with the loss. Conduct research and testing, prepare reports (verbal and written), and to aid the claims and legal staff with the scientific aspects of the case. May be required to become familiar with applicable codes and industry standards as well as laboratory testing protocols that may be required during an investigation. Provide testimony in legal proceedings including depositions, trial, mediations and arbitration. Prepare materials and data as needed to support the overall functions of Risk Control, Claims Services, and Underwriting. Such materials may include newsletters, reports, or presentations as needed to best fit the intended audience and subject matter. Maintain their knowledge and skills in their particular area of expertise by attending conferences, reviewing scientific journals and participating in specific industry standards organizations such as NFPA, ACS, ASME, etc. Perform other duties as assigned.

Strong mechanical, electrical and chemical/materials aptitude with the desire to continuously expand base of knowledge.

The Digital Forensic Specialist will serve as a technical expert in one or more of the following areas: computer forensics, digital forensics, multimedia, mobile device forensics, electronic hardware analysis and troubleshooting, social media searching and preservation, Internet of Things (IoT), SCADA Systems and cyber security.
The digital Forensic Specialist will be given assignments related to claim and other investigations with the purpose of locating, capturing, preserving and analyzing relevant digital data. A particular need is in the area of social media and internet searching and preservation. These data may then be used by business partners to more fully understand a claim or other event. The specialist will be responsible for knowing and using proper forensic techniques and best practices for documenting their work, for supporting possible litigation, and for utilizing available tools and system for producing work product as requested by clients.  This position includes working on damaged digital devices and media to access data.  This position may require giving depositions or trial testimony to support litigation efforts. This position requires occasional travel to loss sites to collect data from digital devices as part of the investigative team. Some of this travel could include overnight stays.

BA/BS in science or engineering and five years of work experience in the field of study required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Valid driver's license required
