This database engineering role requires an experienced individual to set direction and manage existing and new open source database technologies.  A strong customer focus is required to understand database trends and products that can better serve Travelers development staff.  A balance of technical and business acumen is required to evaluate costs, business impact and development productivity levels. 

As a member of the Open Source Database Services team, familiarity with development methodologies including Agile/LEAN, and CICD practices a plus.  Building and integrating database automation for Database As A Service for provisioning and deployment of database structure changes are key deliverables for the team.  This would include stewardship of both private and public cloud database services.
  • The ideal candidate would preferably possess skills in MongoDB, MariaDB/MySQL, Postgres, and NEO4J. 
  • Additional skills in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server would be a plus. 
  • Strong database administration competencies are necessary.  This would include writing/tuning SQL, stored procedures, database backup/recovery, installation and configuration. 
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows, Containers, and Virtualization are desired.
  • Foundational skills in scripting with Python or NodeJS are desired but not required.  
  • Bachelors degree preferred in in Technology or a similar field (or equivalent experience).

Has thorough understanding of project staff roles, abilities and provides input to assess performance and development needs.
