Job Summary
Leads a portfolio of advanced analytic projects and a team of technical professionals engaged in research, data mining and predictive modeling efforts. Support the development of research staff members. Influences business priorities through synthesis of business knowledge and superior analytics. Review analyses and provide direction and insight. Build and manage a strong analytics team. In this capacity, along with the VP, defines positions, and selects team members. Assist in establishing performance metrics, challenging, mentoring, and coaching team members and is a key catalyst in creating a high performing team. Help define positions and select team members. Utilizes business knowledge and leverages advanced technical skills/intuition to creatively solve business problems. Create analytic strategy. Help create business strategy.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Rework conventional methodology to develop new analytical approaches when an issue does not fit customary frameworks. Identify & effectively use conventional and unconventional data sources independently. Translate high-level business needs into appropriate analysis. Skilled at articulating how the impact of research connects to business priorities. Present recommendations to executive management and business partners; including implications. Lead in-depth efforts in applying, validating, and implementing predictive models. Proactively stay abreast of industry and jurisdictional issues Adjust strategy as appropriate to anticipate, respond to, and manage trends. Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners. Design analysis to be actionable. Partner with peers across the company to ensure consistency and alignment where appropriate. Proactively learns the business process, creates connection points to the business as needed to ensure the success of project work.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) degree with 10 years experience or Bachelor's non STEM degree with 12 years experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, business, actuarial science, computer science or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant work experience or Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant work experience preferred. Relevant work experience in directing research and/or advanced analytic work (e.g. predictive modeling) in the insurance industry preferred.

Directs individuals who develop new approaches, methods or policies in the area who are recognized as experts, internally and/or externally.
