Job Summary
The Travelers Operations, Architecture & Infrastructure Systems organization is seeking an experienced and motivated Technology Engineer to guide and support our Enterprise Hadoop Platform and associated software automation utilities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Hadoop Engineering and Administration, Java application development principles, server infrastructure for Linux systems (physical, virtual & cloud), a basic to intermediate knowledge of security standards and implementation (such as Kerberos), a basic knowledge of current infrastructure automation practices, as well as the analytic, organizational, and communication skills necessary to be an effective technical leader in a visible role.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain Enterprise Hadoop clusters that will meet Enterprise Initiatives while maintaining scalability and supportability over time. This includes incorporating cloud-based approaches and emerging technologies.

Provide technical leadership in architecture design (including providing recommendations) for hardware architecture (physical, virtual, cloud-based) that will host Hadoop clusters.

Provide guidance on industry best practices for Hadoop Cluster Design and modifications.

Provide technical leadership for installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Hadoop platform including hardware, and software.

Provide technical leadership on configuring elements of the infrastructure including Hadoop Cluster Configuration, Cluster Tuning, & Kerberos security configuration.

Manage, upgrade, & maintain java-based software automation utilities associated with the Hadoop Cluster.

Design and implement scripts for automation where applicable.

Build, leverage, and maintain effective relationships across technical and business community.

Participate in 24x7 production support rotation and provide off-hours support as required.

Act as a point of contact with our vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues as required.

Lead medium to large sized infrastructure projects with a team spanning multiple areas & disciplines, utilizing project management concepts and best practices.

Research, analyze, and evaluate software products for use in the Hadoop platform.

Provide IT and business partners consultation on using the Hadoop platform effectively.

Follow all enterprise change management and project management processes.

Minimum Qualifications
5 years experience in technology.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Education Bachelors degree preferred in in Technology or a similar field (or equivalent experience).

Technical Knowledge: Proficient in engineering and administering Enterprise-class Hadoop Platforms (specifically the Hortonworks HDP distribution).
