We currently have an opening for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team in Plymouth, MN. The specific responsibilities for this role include reviewing and preparing management reports, approving journal entries and account reconciliations, and providing guidance and collaborating with other staff on accounting topics, and maintaining the internal control environment within the department. The position will be involved with International Financial Reporting Standards accounting, investment accounting, management reporting, statutory accounting, and parent and other accounting. In addition, the position may also assist with overall financial systems, including the PeopleSoft General Ledger.


  1. Assists accounting leadership in the execution of departmental plans, objectives, tasks and controls, including the Model Audit Rule and 52-109 Canadian control certification processes.
  2. Analyzes and interprets complex data from several source systems and data warehouses.
  3. Works with internal and external audit to maintain, support and improve the control environment, including account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  4. Drafts, recommends, and implements procedural and workflow changes to create more efficient processes.
  5. Assists in the development of analytics to detect potential accounting and reporting errors.
  6. Researches various accounting issues and aides in creating accounting policies.
  7. Performs special projects to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of financial reporting and other business activities.
  8. Contributes to the maintenance of the financial control process related to all forms of disbursements and offers suggestions for improvement where necessary.
  9. Provides functional guidance and training to newer or less experienced staff.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft financial application products.
  • Must be able to analyze complex data and prepare a variety of reports.
  • Intermediate to advanced insurance knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Expresses objectives, procedures, results and business impacts clearly and logically in both written and verbal form.
  • Consistently identifies issues, root causes and makes business-focused recommendations.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree required
  • CPA designation attained or progress made toward a CPA certification required
  • 5-7 years of related experience
  • Public accounting experience required
