Under general supervision, the position is responsible for estimating, investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating and resolving assigned first party Specialty Property claims. Claim types will include but may not be limited to Contractors Equipment, Heavy Equipment, Computerized Business Equipment, Medical Equipment and Scheduled Property.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Handles 1st party Property claims of medium to high severity and complexity as assigned. Completes field inspection of losses including accurate scope of damages, photographs, written estimates and/or computer assisted estimates. Investigates and evaluates all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages and liability of first-party property damage claims. Accesses and inspects all areas of a dwelling or structure including tight spaces such as attic, staircases, entries and crawl spaces. Lifts, carries, unfolds and sets up ladders weighing approximately 38 pounds; climb ladder; transition to and from ladder to area requiring inspection; walk on roof. Establishes timely and accurate claim and expense reserves. Negotiates and conveys claim settlements within authority limits. Writes denial letters, Reservation of Rights and other complex correspondence. Controls damages through proper usage of cost containment tools. Meets all quality standards and expectations per Best Practices. Maintains an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures. Manages file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases. Handles files in compliance with state regulations, where applicable. Provides excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, agent and all other internal and external customers. Identifies and refers claims with MCU exposure to the supervisor. Recognizes when to refer claims to Special Investigations Unit and/or Subrogation Unit. Serves as a technical resource for Claim Representatives. Performs administrative functions such as expense accounts, time off reporting, etc. as required. Occasionally serves on Catastrophe Duty, including other offices and states may be required. High School Degree or GED required; A minimum of 5 years Personal Lines or Commercial Lines Property claim handling experience. In order to perform the essential job functions of this job, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements. Generally, license(s) are required to be obtained within three months of starting the job.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelors Degree preferred. Hardware and software skills and abilities including computers and other similar electronic devices. Knowledge of construction, estimating and estimating system (Exactimate preferred) Must display solid verbal and written communications skills. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently. Solid analytical skills. Excellent negotiation skills. Completion of claim handling training program.
