The Liability Claims Representative, investigates assigned claims to determine coverage and/or liability according to Company guidelines and DOI Regulations. Gathers facts by conducting review of the policy Declarations, obtaining reports from public authorities, conducting phone interviews of parties involved in the loss. Assesses the value of the injury or damages based on objectively assessing and evaluating the documentation received. Identifies questionable or inconsistent information. Submits concerns to Claim Supervisor, Managers or Home Office Specialists as appropriate.
Formulates and communicates settlement offers based on evaluation or liability, review of price lists to determine repair/replacement costs, review of current verdict ranges of similar cases which received court-appointed settlements. Negotiates offers with claimants and/or insureds. Reviews reserves periodically to reevaluate based on new evidence or developments in the life of a claim.
Documents claim files accurately and thoroughly and composes reports, correspondence and documentation to track and report on the status of individual claim cases and to comply with DOI Regulations.
Communicates with Underwriting and Loss Control when deficiencies are noted involving the insured risk. Determines when additional resources are needed beyond the scope of the incumbent's position or individual capabilities and communicates needs to supervisor.
Must have knowledge of insurance regulation codes, vehicle code, current claim laws, trends, insurance case law, and other regulatory issues in the handling of comparative negligence.
Awareness of medical terminology
Excellent command of the English language both verbally and written
Strong MS Word, Excel, and Outlook skills
