Homesites Catastrophe Management Team is searching for Catastrophe Risk Associate who will apply his/her technical knowledge/skills to support to assess catastrophic risk by state and region. While working with Cat Risk Manager to develop creative solutions that will advance Cat Management strategies, this position will provide a great opportunity to expand technical expertise in R, Python, SQL and GIS application. The Catastrophe Risk Associate will work closely with the State Product Teams to incorporate these CAT strategies into pricing, product features, and underwriting. This opportunity is in our Boston, MA location and reports to Catastrophe Risk Manager.
Provide state and countrywide peril specific reviews to Catastrophe Management Team and external Homesite teams
Manage current catastrophe related products for both underwriting and pricing
Research and develop innovative catastrophe related processes and products for homeowners and commercial lines of business
Independently research new external weather and geography data
Actively participate in catastrophe event management and support creating a report to communicate with Upper Management
Independently prepare and submit state specific statutory reporting
Clearly communicate complex findings to member of Catastrophe Management Team and external Homesite teams
Five plus years of insurance experience preferred
Detail oriented and inquisitive
Skilled in critical thinking and analysis
Effective communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
Experience with SQL, Python, R or other computer language is required
Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus
Bachelors degree in a quantitative field such as Earth Sciences, Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Science or Engineering. Advanced degree is a plus.
